Mirrors over bedside tables?

I am drawn to the look of mirrors over bedside tables ...

And wonder if that's a look I can incorporate into my bedroom. If so, what style would best suit my space? (And yes, I know there are too many pillows on my bed. ;-))

Lamps look a bit small in these pics, but they are appropriately sized. Kinda thinking adding mirrors behind them might add a little sparkle and more interest. Feedback on this idea welcomed.

The mirrors are great. Put "little vanity clock" into google and all kinds of little pretty things will show up. I have couple and love them!

I love the mirrors. Perfect, and they look great from the dining area too. Bonus!

Beautiful!! Now you have me wanting to add mirrors above my nightstands, too!

I was looking forward to coming home and seeing your new mirrors and glad you got them. I really like them. I would love to do that too in what will be my new room in a month or so. But I already have a big mirror planned for one wall to bring my roses in and probably my vintage window mirror to "fix the Feng Shui" issue of having people walk up from behind you in bed before you see them.

i was in the needs something over the headboard until I saw the room with the ceiling. I think it is fine as is, but if I was going to do something, I would test some type of fabric on a rod that uses the sage and plum colors.

Brava! It looks so nice! So jealous.

I don't think you need anything at all over the bed. But if you were to put something, I do not think it should be a mirror or something framed. Something more organic and free form but vaguely horizontal. Metal or fabric or ... IDK

    But no rush.

Perfection! I agree with Mtn regarding anything over the bed. Well done!

    Hen, they look beautiful!

They are perfect! Great team, you and hubby.

Here, for over the headboard (I think it should read "lie" though, shouldn't it?):

    =)

Sorry for all those heads that just exploded.

    I'm just kidding, of course.

    Looks lovely! Nice work!!!!

Oh, Jen, perfect!! So elegant, I love it!

    nice job!

Oh Jen, the mirrors look stunning. Excellent work. Room looks so much more finished, brighter, welcoming. I am in love,

And, honestly I don't think anything over the headboard is needed. If you wanted something it would need to be horizontal. It would have to have a light feel, with some openness possibly in the same tone as the mirror frame, I am thinking metallic.

Thank you all so very much for the kind words!

I have had my eye on this Etsy painter for awhile and wonder how one of her textured pieces would look above the bed? This one is done in silvery purples. I like its rather feminine "ruffled" feel. It's 24" x 48".

Edit: 24" is a tad too tall, but perhaps she could do a different size canvas. She does accept custom orders. Just a thought!

ohh, I think that would look awesome over your bed. You need to get someone to photo shop for you so WE can decide.

Jen, it looks fabulous. Your room would be calling me each time I caught that view from the kitchen.

    Perfect!

    Love the mirrors!

Looks fantastic! Love that look. You do work amazingly fast on a project! ;)

    Thanks so much!

Doing a bit of tweaking on the nightstands today. I don't want them cluttered by any means, but want to warm them up a bit. I'm pretty satisfied with this one:

That piece of gray slate is a roof tile from an ancient church that I visited in England. The parishioners were selling them to help pay for the new roof they'd recently installed. I use it as a coaster for my morning coffee.

    This side still needs work:

Looks lovely Jen. Maybe if you just move the smaller shell to the front of the lamp with the larger to its right, somewhat behind the small one and to the right of the lamp. I hope that makes sense. That would leave you room for a book, if you read in bed.

The mirrors are perfection in your bedroom and look so lovely. No need for anything over the bed; IMO anything there would really clutter up the area. Your headboard has horizontals and that is enough of the horizontals. Please don't mess with perfection.

I've decided after spending some more time in the room not to add anything over the bed. I've studied it from all angles and that space above the headboard definitely needs to remain unadorned. Oh, I'm just so pleased with the mirrors! I'm sitting in my little purple chair in the corner gazing at them. I never would've guessed that two simple mirrors would make me love this room so much more!

Penny cat discovered them last night and is now obsessed with looking at herself. I keep catching her on the nightstands, little gray face to the mirror, just staring! It's as though she's thinking, "OMG! I had no idea I was so beautiful!" LOL!

Those mirrors, and your bedroom - awesome! No, you don't need anything over that bed, room works fine as is.

Penny cat seems to understand this, too. (You need a photo of her doing this!)

Just wanted to add my compliments for a beautifully done room. Those mirrors are absolutely perfect!

Love what the mirrors do for the feel of the room, it’s serene and inviting! Bravo!

The mirrors are the perfect touch to an already beautiful space. Great job Jen!!

Jen, what size are those mirrors? I just discovered there's a Kirkland's within a reasonable drive.

    Utter perfection!!

Your bedroom looks wonderful - serene and inviting. The mirrors are hung perfectly and add just the right touch to the walls.

I haven't heard of Kirkland's so I googled it and was surprised to discover one nearby. It opened about 2 years ago but the stores aren't easily visible from the street. I'll mention it to DS who just bought his first condo.

As for cleaning tile - I make my own cleaner following the instructions of the fellow who installed my granite counters and porcelain floor in the kitchen. Vinegar, ammonia, bleach and citrus cleaners are low pH and can etch or strip the finish off your tile and slowly eat away at the grout.

This cleaner is pH neutral so it won't etch the finish or leave a filmy residue behind. It's simple to make, cheap and safe for most surfaces.

Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup Isopropyl Alcohol to a one quart spray bottle

Add 2 or 3 teaspoons Dawn dish detergent

Fill bottle with water. Spray on granite, ceramic or porcelain and wipe with a microfiber cloth.

That's all you need. You can add essential oils if you'd like a scent but it's not necessary. This cleaner has a very slight smell that quickly dissipates. The alcohol disinfects and helps the cleaner dry quickly.

Now I'm looking forward to your next project.....

Your kind comments are so greatly appreciated! Thank you! And thanks Maire for the helpful info!

Linelle, the mirrors are 32" x 56". The same style also comes in 32" x 44".

Your bedroom looks wonderful...I love the addition of the mirrors!

I'm in agreement with not adding anything above together headboard... I think perfect as is:)

I am not a mirror fan normally but yours look wonderful - they look like windows and open up the wall. Very good work!

Love the mirrors and what they add to your bedroom. Nicely done nightstand- I love having things around me that have a personal story/meaning like your roof tile. I can't believe how quickly you get things done!

Perfection in those mirrors, job well done.

Wow, beautiful, love it!!. Will try to incorporate this idea in my guest bedroom.

Wondering about a floor lamp by the chair in the corner. This would probably go behind the chair so it wouldn't interfere with operation of the shutters. Thoughts? It's not absolutely needed, but just wondering if it would add one more touch of warmth to the space.

When ever I see a stand like that, it always looks awkward to me so I'm inclined to say that a quaint little table lamp would be better.

something like this maybe to balance out the lighting and sparkle.

    table lamp

Thanks, Lukki! A table lamp is a good idea. I like my bowl displayed on the table, but I could use it elsewhere. I've been perusing photos of bedrooms online and even in small rooms there is still almost always a third lamp, along with the bedside table lamps. That's really what got me to thinking about this.

I like the one you linked to, and would even be willing to glam it up a bit more than that (something crystal?). You've given me food for thought. I may check at Home Goods tomorrow. The last time I was there I noticed some new sparkles coming from their lamp section.

Glad you like the suggestion, it would definitely balance out the lighting. I'm not sure about the crystals, the lamp I linked to is the silver mercury, which I think is a tad less feminine and it would blend in with what you've already got well.

Check out Kirklands too, they have a few variations and can ship to the store for free. You may need to remove the bowl due to it's size, but I think a picture of you and your hubby or something you love in a pretty frame next to it would be lovely.

    Circle Lamp

    last modified: 9 years ago

I made a quick dash to Home Goods (I live very, very close to one which is a blessing and a curse) and came home with this crystal lamp that I really like. It has a very nice soft, light gray silk shade, and I like the size - not too squatty which will enable me to add a photo or trinket box to the table. Plus, it is close in line to the "light height" of the bedside lamps, which seems to carry the eye around nicely. It's very feminine, and very well made. It may be a keeper.

Ok, the new lamp is staying. It passes the DH Approval Test, which mostly measures kitty destructive proneness. I'll need to play around with other items to display with it. I won't be reading here, but just wanted a bit more lamp light in the room and this seems to fit.

Now I truly feel I'm DONE with this room, with perhaps a few more tweaks to smalls on the tables. Thank you all for the AMAZING help! :-)

The mirrors and lamp look great - nice job! Everything is very soothing.

Have you tried pulling the chair out from the corner just a tad? It looks tight, but then it could just be the photos.

I pulled the chair out just a "scootch." It looks better. :-)

I absolutely love it Jen! Epecially love the look from the hallway. I thought of using mirrors over my NS a couple of years ago, but with the master bath literally a few feet away, and mirrors over 2 cabinet style vanities, thought it would look to be too much. It's a nice touch to your MB. Please do not put anything above the bed.. ;)

Nice! Wow, you work fast! When you said crystal that's not what I thought you meant, it looks great. Also, just a thought but you know what might be able to give the table a more cohesive look is to find a pretty round place mat to set under the items. I do it all the time and it really helps give it a more finished look (to my eye) anyways.

You could go with a beaded one, woven, sparkly or plain, any kind would work.

Bed bath and beyond - just plain in different colors, ivory or plum would be pretty

Found these on Macy's site, comes in several colors

And Pier 1 had some glittery ones

I've used a woven one here

The room looks lovely. It is serene and I wouldn't add a thing.

Thanks so much for the sweet comments! And Lukki, those are very pretty. I'm a tad concerned about anything that might destabilize the lamp even in the slightest - in fact, just to be on the safe side I think I'll put a bit of quake putty under is base. It's quite heavy and I really would be surprised if the cats can move it, but once they start rubbing around on something to scent it ... Well, let's just say they've surprise me before. ;-)

Boy am I lucky I don't have a kirklands cause I love those Mercury lamps (and the last thing I need is more lamps).

I love the new lamp, that space needed it
