Need Help with Kitchen Remodel

We are looking to remodel our kitchen. Interested in shaker style cabinets in both white and gray - very popular these days, with some bells and whistles - soft closing, some with glass doors, and definitely 42" with both a light rail and some molding. Also need a panel for side of fridge, etc.. Would love thoughts on non custom cabinets from places like Home Depot and Cabinet Discounters. We have a quote from a semi-custom cabinet line, but would like to compare. Some contractors have told us not to spend a lot on cabinets.

I would check around, we got a quote from a manufactured line that would just replace our current footprint with a few upgrades. Then just for the heck of it we got a quote from a highly recommended local custom cabinet maker. I thought it was a waste of time. Custom was only $200 more and came off about $500 when we asked for a cash deal. We were pleasantly surprised. With soft close drawers, glass cabinets, etc.

One benefit of custom was picking any paint color. Lines at Home Depot are only going to offer one or two grays.

I would suggest working with a local custom cabinet maker. Look for one that comes highly recommended. Best of luck !
