Have never grown one in the house but have two in the yard . They turn brown as the growth matures . Same is true of neighbors . There are different types with different habits . Wouldn't worry about it. Incredibly hardy plant!!

I maintain mine as a shrub and all old growth is dark brown though I remove around 50 percent twice a year so lots of new growth which is bright green,

Though it's not the right time of year, I didn't want to leave the Schefflera in its current soil. It was 100% peat and held onto water far too long. I hate that they come shipped that way.

I removed from the pot and massaged all the peat out of the root mass. It did it quickly so the roots wouldn't be exposed to air for long and also didn't break many feeder roots, if any.

hes now in a 5:1:1 mix in a 1" larger terra cotta pot.

I did this same exact type of repot with a couple smaller ficus last week. There were no ill affects, and they actually seem to be doing a lot better.

Ill wait till June for my large ficus, though.
