Did you join two ikea countertops?

Hi, your remodel looks great. I don't recall if i already asked you this (I don't think so), if so I apologize! Did you join two idea counter tops together? I was really looking for information/advice from someone that did it themselves versus having their contractor do it. Looks like no seam...nice job!

Yes, we did join two counter depth pieces together the get the width we needed. I contacted several contractors and companies online to find a custom sized piece and it was more than $1,000 for the island top. No can do! So, we bought a biscuit joiner at home depot and did it ourselves. DH didn't have all the right tools to do it perfect, but no, even standing in the room you cant see a seam.

Thank you so much for answering. I don't have the tools either, especially clamps, so I was thinking about gluing and using a 'Kreg Jig' and screw them together (pocket holes), so pretty much the same thing. $1000, haha here (Ontario, Canada) we have a price for a maple one for $2200 and a walnut one for $3200. This is for a 90"x51" top. Which is almost exactly what we would achieve by gluing ourselves. Your solution is much more palatable.

Yes, we did the kreg jig too with the biscuits. Clamps, we bought at a lumber store, not too costly. The hardest part was getting the two edges cut VERY straight. My husband clamped a metal straight edge to the top and used a jigsaw and went very slow. Talk about nerveracking!
