Love the ikat chair! Why do you think no one uses the space (except for the kitties)? I'd figure that out first and then try to address it.

Is the furniture not comfortable enough? More comfortable furniture would be in order. Does everyone sit in a different room with a television? Maybe then the room needs a distinct purpose like crafting. And so on.

I think we have similar tastes.

I have a daybed at the window end of my sunroom (similar to yours) and love it. So does my dog!

I brought my daybed from my library at my previous (large) home. When I downsized, I decided a sunny place to lounge and nap would be perfect.

Mine is a mahogany and wicker British Colonial look. I'm using navy, white and grey bohemian prints on it.

I have two wicker rocking chairs that I had spray painted navy like my outdoor shutters. I have new ikat navy/white cushions for those chairs (they had been outdoor porch chairs at my previous home).

If my sunroom wasn't stacked with 30 boxes for my kitchen addition, I'd post photos! My wicker rockers are stored out in the garage, too. Someday soon, I hope to have it finished.

My sunroom is 8.5' x 18' -- narrow and long. I have an open doorway to my living room. I had the once upon a time exterior window removed to make a framed open window looking into the living room. When on my daybed, I have a view across the living, foyer and into the dining room.

I totally agree with crl. Our sunroom is also off our living room. Its main purpose is to watch the ever changing Ohio weather, and the birds. We had purchased high quality wicker (sofa,rocker, chair & ottoman), but like you, our dogs used the room more than us. The sofa, though comfortable, wasn't lounge- worthy. Last summer, I bought a slip covered sofa at C & B that just embraces you in comfort. Now, we use it all the time.

Mine is small as well -- 10 x 14 and it's upstairs off the master. Two walls are windows, one opens into the bedroom and the fourth is a wall of bookshelves. We use this as our "spare" TV room -- two leather chairs, one leather ottoman, a cabinet for TV and printer and a glass door bookcase that belonged to my parents. Oh, and a great antique needlepoint chair and wee footstool in the corner. Doesn't serve a purpose but fills up that corner.

Would you consider a low profile loveseat in front of the window (so as not to block it too much) -- then some sort of table in front to kick your feet up. Love that ikat chair!

I agree with crl that you should determine what the room will be used for, before you dive in and spend $$ on new furniture.

I googled "small sunroom off of Living room" -- lots of ideas:

I'd put some type of lounging piece out there, but be wary of blocking the heating too much, so against a wall where it wouldn't cover the whole heater. Or else find a way to condense the heating system. Otherwise you're just heating your furniture.

I have wicker rocking chairs in my sunroom because we love to rock. The set I got has 2 regular rocking chairs and 2 swivel rockers. A wicker storage bench and a little table. It's just the right amount of furniture and we can move around easily. Along one wall of windows I have a long table set up that I do crafts on. I have a small set of rolling drawers for my stuff. I love doing crafts in there with all the sunlight. Almost like I am sitting outside. Our sunroom is directly off of a large room we use as a multi purpose room, it's our office, has a leather couch for sitting and a small table with 4 chairs for games etc. All together with the sunroom it's a very long space that we love and use daily.

If you have a cost plus world market store around you go there they have a sofa/bed similar to the type you want and it's open on the bottom so the heat could go right ahead and flow through. It would look very nice in your room. They also have fabulous pillows you could use on it and tie in the ikat chair. This is one of those, they have an arch back one in the store I like even better. I would love to have one. $319.00

I remembering Mtnrdredux purchasing that daybed from WM. It's a great piece. Wonder how she likes it. You have such a pretty room. The ikat chair a great. Would you consider an area rug to add warmth?

Very interesting evolution of your sunroom, Roarah----it is absolutely most inviting in the final picture, the sofa almost beckons you in. Who would have thought that furniture placement could make such a difference!

Thanks, everyone! The rocker (and its sister chair) belonged to my grandmother and we just refinished them. I like the idea of a day bed facing the living room but they may be too deep. I've been looking in antique stores for a while and haven't found anything the right proportions. Maybe my husband can make something if I can buy interesting carved legs (open underneath so the radiators aren't covered). And add a lot of pillows and cushion bottom. I would love to put a kilim on the floor but we currently have a litter box under the desk and it gets messy. Our sweet, old Mabel really needs that location so for now it stays. We also need better lighting. The overhead ceiling fan light isn't good for nighttime reading. And 2 of those chairs aren't comfortable which is primarily why the room doesn't get used.

roarah, that is an amazing pictorial showing that furniture placement does matter! wow.

brdrl, I also think that adding a rug would make a big difference! I don't see the interfering desk you mentioned, though, so not sure how that affects rug placement. I also don't see any table surfaces or places to set things down. If it were mine, I'd add a rug and some small funky tables. The cats will love it. :)

ETA: I'd also fill it with plants! -- and, sorry, I didn't notice you said that two chairs aren't comfortable. Now that I realize that, I'd say start by getting comfortable chairs!

L love a sunroom for reading so if it we me I'd leave the ikat chair and add a chaise lounge, colorful vinyl floor cloth, floor lamp and a good size plant.

I agree roarah! And I love how it goes so well with your beautiful and serene living room. I always have to stop and spend some time looking at your photos when you post them!

We have a futon, a comfortable easy chair and ottoman, another smaller chair, and a long low shelf filled with plants under the windows on one wall. The futon is really comfy for lounging around. No cats, but I feel like a big old cat when I lay there in the sun and nap! When our grandchildren come, we pull the futon out and they sleep out there.

We have a sunroom off our family room. We have a TV in there. We all like to watch different things, so it is a TV room as well as an area to lounge. If I have a friend over for coffee, we sit in there. It has a small comfy sofa, two chairs. All in bright colors. I wonder if you should give yours a library feel since you have to keep the desk there. My mother in law has a small library (not a sunroom) that has a big window. She has two comfy chairs in front of the windows, a small desk and bookshelves on the walls. She has a tiny TV in there. It is nice spot.

And I might add, that having a futon or daybed in your office/library can come in handy if you want to take a short nap. Ask me how I know, lol!

I second the world market daybed. Or IKEA Stocksund. It comes in all kind of colors with clip cover. It also comes as a chaise, chair and ottoman.
