How about clear glass subway tile? It will have a hint of color, naturally. But, to really make a nice difference, make all of the your electrical hidden.

I like that idea, do you think white to a different color and size? I agree with the electrical outlets, too many and if glass tile helps conceal them I'm all in.
I've attached another pic of the kitchen.

I think if you stick with a simple subway tile look, the style will last. In 2003 I installed beautiful mosaic tile and I'm over it! :)

I can't stand that mosaic tile. It's already dated and tired.

I think glass subway tile would be too modern looking for your traditional kitchen - the same for white, since it wouldn't tie into the colors of the floor, cabinets or counters. Try to find a ceramic tile that would pull those colors in, yet provide some contrast to the dark counter and cabinetry. Make sure to pick a reddish brown, not they greyish brown of the glass tiles you said you liked better (the top selection, with the little squares, would match better color-wise....)

I love the color of your cabinets. Mine have a similar feel. They are cranberry cherry. Picking the backsplash was crazy hard for me. I fell in love with the sample after looking at so many that just didn't wow me. Then, with backsplash sample in hand I went to a quartz supplier and within minutes picked out the quartz. I am, for the most part, not a risk taker so this was a big deal for me. I am very happy with my choice. My electrical outlets are those little white boxes attached to the bottom of the cabinets. I'm not thrilled with them but it was the best alternative.

Hide outlets by mounting outlet strips up under wall cabinets. Most places like Home Depot carry them. Nothing worse than ruining nice tile with an outlet every 6".

With your cherry cabinets I would go with a warm 2x12 Glass Subway Tiles in the color(s) of Sand:

Just to show you another idea, we went with stone subway tile. We made sure they were sealed well and I have had no trouble cleaning them whatsoever (which was a big fear because my family is messy!).
