If mirrors don't reflect something beautiful or interesting, I'd rather use art. With the vent, thermostat and light switch on this wall, I'm not sure I'd draw too much attention to it. Do paint the vent to match the wall though (and do that throughout your spaces.) Is there another spot where the demi-lune console could be used? You could try peel and stick vinyl tile over the entry tile, but it might not be that great an improvement. Look for a rug the exact dimension of the square or close.

You could always add some beautiful wall art from Uttermost and a nice pc of art glass from Kosta Boda for that table.

Thanks for your help. I actually bought the console for this space so I would really like to keep it there. I do agree with you regarding the vent, thermostat and light switch. I do wish they weren't there. Also, across from the mirror is a couple of steps which take you down to the dining room so the mirror would not be overlooking a wall but open space. Don't know if that changes anything. I was also thinking of buying a rug for the space.

How about something along this line for the mirror and table decor - but with the lamp on the right instead of the left in this photo. As far as the rug goes, I don't know what stye or colors you have in the dining room, but maybe a rug that picks up some of the greens in the floor by the front door?

Love that mirror. Do you know where I can find it? Actually, I can still take the console back. I was thinking if i bought a wider console I could hide the light switch and thermostat with a high lamp (although no outlet for a lamp) or a tall flower arrangement. What do you guys think?

If there is a light switch on the wall you can run a wire to form an outlet on the table wall near the floor with little work or cost. Having an outlet there will be a blessing for many years. Then you can add a lamp which you need there or a nice picture with a light over it. A small oriental run would be pleasing over the tile entrance. The wire ball shaped basket looks light and interesting too. A mirror that does not reflect anything much is not such a good addition.

Could you post a picture from the front door so we could see what is on the other side if table? Do you need a lamp there? Any practical needs, or just decorative?

What a beautiful table! Envious! It has graceful lines, and if it isn't in best shape, that just gives it character!

My first thought was - don't center it on the wall. A tall plant (a slender topiary tree?) in front of the "hardware" would disguise it all, but you would still be able to reach behind the leaves to operate the switches. If you wallpaper, the hardware is going to stand out even more, but without knowing your color scheme or decorating style, I would paint that wall from the front door to the opening. And the vent. Frankly, the flooring would look over that tiled area when you can afford it.

A long elegant mirror would work well, with a couple of candlesticks of different heights on top. A bowl for keys. Underneath, a vase which, if you move the table off center, will hide the vent. Something light-colored.

I agree w/inkwitch - don't center the table. The tall plant is a great idea. I also agree w/ decoenthusiaste (I usually do) about the mirror but I also like the look of a mirror over a console table. Sorry, that sentence is not very helpful is it?

Any chance you could take a few more pictures so we could see the style of the surrounding areas?

I like Carole's idea about the wallpaper or you could just paint the wall an accent color then put a tall simple vase on the console. Keep it simple and centered!
