Does anyone know which critter is the culprit? Thank you.

I've received a few Hoyas in the mail that looked like this, I always assumed it was just leaf damage as the spots never spread. Any chance it got damaged in any way?

Some bugs will pierce they leaves of hoyas during the summer time.

General consensus is scale. Ugh!! (but looks to be old damage)

I don't think it's scale. This looks like vanuatuensis - am I right? (That or... is it pallida that looks so much like it??) My vanuatuensis has leaves that look like this. I have a feeling it is very sensitive to sun damage... Whatever it is, it doesn't spread, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Looks like some kind of leaf damage by insects or sun damage which happened in very humid conditions and led to a fungal infection at the damaged spot.Nothing major...just don't keep the plant in too moist conditions...doesn't look like anything that will spread to other leas.Happens in Florida humidity a lot.I have seen it on plants I've ordered from Florida over the years.

Thanks everyone. Agree it's either insect or sun damage. I'm leaning more to insect (I researched Vans are prone to aphids). These photos are the back leaves of Naumanii (same grower) that have some type of damage as well (although I've never seen an insect on it)

Keeping in mind these are on the backs of the leaves, which leads me to believe insects. Maybe I'll do a lite spray of Bayer 3-1

Update - I went to my local nursery with a couple of these leaves for some advice. It's neither insect or disease.. At some point it may have taken up too much water than it could hold and some of its cells burst. Good to know and I'm glad I have such a resource to go to in the future so close to my house:-)

Hm, that's interesting!
