The lighting throws the colors off, the paint is actually brown not gray. And the cabinets, two mirrors and another wall cabinet all tie into the color scheme and not something I want to change at this point in time. My iPhone can't capture the colors that well. But this is a close up of the cabinetry.

Paint it white or it may be easier just to rrplace it with a new white door, interior doors aren't that expensive

you are right that phone doesn't cut it, I like the stain, I have the same issue, would you then paint the opposite side or leave it two sided?

Well that's the thing, the previous owner already painted the other side white. And it's an old solid wood heavy door so I don't want to replace it. They don't make them like this anymore.

Can you stain it lighter to match the mirror frames and cabinet? I know it's easier the other way--light to dark, but the lighter wood looks wonderful in the dark room.

Have you thought about painting the trim around the door a darker color?

I agree with the last poster--paint it white. It doesn't match anything in the room, unless you count the dark flecks in the granite.

I agree with housegal200 - Instead of painting the cabinets, or door trim etc, do it one time properly and sand the door down, put a light stain on it, you'll see more of the wood grain and it'll lighten up the room a lot more.

The door looks fine and I'd certainly not paint it.

Some suggest that you might want to consider darkening the cabinet, too, however, because the two mirror frames match the cabinet, the lighter color does not seem at all out of place to me; in fact, darkening all the wood in the room could end up making this small room have the feel of a cave.

Personally, I'd prefer something other than stark white for the trim around a door that dark. If you're going to paint your walls, consider not only painting all the walls in the room the same color but paint the trim that same wall color as well.
