All we see here is the cabinets with the doors pulled off - no shelves as mentioned. If they are old home made cabinets give it a whirl. But don't ruin new stuff in case your DIY plan goes awry. I like open shelves in some settings as long as they make sense with the layout and you can afford the loss of enclosed cabinets. But I would lose the short bank of hanging units anyway if it were mine. But beware you will have to deal with the rest once those go.

I never like cabinets hanging over a bar. I couldn't have open shelves because I find my dog's hair everywhere. Good luck. I think it will look great.

It's hard to tell by pic...but I would definitely get rid of the two short cabinets over bar...the cabinet beside...is it hanging over bar as well? Would that cabinet fit beside the one between the one next to window...to the door frame? You will still have the soffit...possible to do some nice lighting over the bar?

So, I removed all the cabinets to the left of the sink. I found some beautiful shelves made from reclaimed wood that I plan to put on the wall. Nothing will go over the bar area. I loved how light and open everything looked after the cabinets were removed. I have kept the cabinet that went against the wall, just in case. Much more than I planned to do, but I think it will work.

I think it will look great. I like "the look" of open shelves in a kitchen (along with the cabinetry). I think it breaks up the monotony of a "standard" kitchen . . . and sometimes it just works better for your personal needs--like the lighting and view, etc.

Have you finished your reno yet?

Open shelves in a kitchen just spell more cleaning so I would put very few things on the shelves but IMO the wall is going to look off
