Could you switch the cabinet and television ? Your lamp seems a little tall and thin. I would get a different lamp, remove the other red items and add some curtains, pillows, and throw in a print that had just a touch of the green. Or a print that complements the green. Could you spray paint all of your small tables one color? You may need another lamp, possibly a floor lamp beside the other end of the couch. You could also put some battery operated timed candles in your cabinet for a light. You could also trade out the two tables serving as a coffee table for a large ottoman.

I agree, everything can go, except the green couch. Buy a larger TV stand and move the TV to the wall that has the curio cabinet on it. Other colors that would complement green are, yellow, orange, and other greens in various shades, and white.

I think I would try the tv on the wall where the hutch is located. If you want to keep hutch in the room, move it on wall where tv is ( either angle it in corner or move as far down on wall as can)
Place white chair up a little and beside hutch. This way you will be able to see TV when sitting in it. You need a rug in front of sofa. I would find one you like that has some green it it, and then pick drapes , throw, throw pillows and art from colors in rug. Add lumbar pillow to white chair. You could add neutral sheers between drapes if you need to cut glare from Windows. I would go with a round coffee table or ottoman. I agree with claudiann that you need an end table and lamps.

Remove the red. You can replace the lampshade with a drum type in beige & purchase pillow covers to put on the red one from Ikea for about $3-4.00. You will need some drapes to install from just below the ceiling down to the floor. Decide on the accent colors you want to use from a painting you buy. I certainly do not think changing places w/ the TV & curio are necessary. Good accent colors are any shade of green, blue, purple, yellow, orange or brown.

The room is a bit crowded. I'd remove the china cabinet and reed pots entirely. Then I'd rotate the sectional 90 degrees to put one side on the wall where the TV currently is. Put one of your 2 square tables at each end of the sectional. Use the black table for your coffee table. Put the lamp on the end table furthest from your pot lights. Mount your TV on an arm on the wall where the china cabinet usually is. And bring the white chair over next to the end table with the lamp. Something like this:

If you're on a budget, update colours with a new lampshade, some new pillows or a throw, and a tablecloth or paint for the red table.

I would keep the TV where it is and not facing the window, but move it to the left. Take the plants and find another room. That would give you room for an accent chair. Move the tall cabinet over or find another room for it.

I bet Christmas is your favorite holiday, lol. Red and green are a little out of control. Remove the red and add another accent color that compliments your green sofa.

I agree that you have a lot of things in your room, but it wouldn't take much to pull it together. I would encourage you to take everything out except couch , chair, tv and curio and start from there. Drapes ( hung above the window frame) would make a dramatic difference. Add an area rug, a large coffee table and a tv cabinet that is longer than tv - see if you can hang the tv. Pick your coordinating colors by your curtain choice or a nice inexpensive larger print from Homegoods or IKEA. Keep it simple and have fun.

I love the china cabinet. I think the key thing is clear a lot of items out. Right now it looks a bit cluttered and feels overwhelmed.

Try mounting the tv on the wall. If you have the budget, replace the blinds with shutters or even a roll down shade.

I'd add throw pillows with modern prints, like the xbase pillow from cb2. The white and black accent makes the room feel elegant without being too somber or stoic.

If you're up for a diy project, I'd re-stain the cabinet something lighter to pair with the soft green sofa.

Lastly, I prefer overhead lighting over a floor lamp. Floor lamps just add to the clutter. Pendant lights give the room more dimension and interest. It's the easiest decoration to give it that expensive look.

color of your coffee table. For colors, you could pick pillows that have a
shade of yellow and white.

I suggest that you change your coffee table then put a flower base. Hang your TV to look more spacious.

I don't think its a good idea to place your cabinet there.

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions. I am working to get rid of some things so I can start getting some of the new items you suggested. Just not sure if I should move the couch and TV. Maybe I will try it the way it is first and then move it to see if that is better. I wish I had the decorating talent you have!

I'm not sure. I want it to be clean and neat. Some what contemporary with a warm side to it. I do want it to be livable without being too harsh. Obviously I need help!

Was thinking about a coffee table like this one. Would that work? Is the jape ok or would round be better?
