we had a wee visitor

this adorable little 5 week old dane puppy with no name came to illinois all the way from across the state of missouri. a rescue had taken him in but they were not prepared to care for such a young pup. initially, they were told he was 9 weeks old but that obviously wasn't true.

on his way to great dane rescue in northern illinois, he spent saturday night with me and the dane gang. the girls were pretty much indifferent to him but samson mothered him right from the moment he got here. it was so cute to watch the puppy play while samson just laid on the floor and gave him free rein to chew on his lips, ears, and climb all over him. samson puts the *gentle* in gentle giant!

the little guy got me up once during the night. took him out to potty, brought him back in and of course, it was play time. at 1:30 a.m., i just wanted to go back to sleep! i let him play for a while then put him on the couch between me and samson thinking i would slip him back into the crate when he went to sleep. i nodded off, awoke 2 hours later in a panic wondering if he had fallen off the couch. i looked over and saw that he had climbed up onto samson's back and was stretched out, sound asleep. i'm sure, since he should have still been with his mom and litter mates, samson was the next best thing. :)

he is now in foster care in dane rescue up north and is doing great!

What a Sweetpea!!! He and Sampson look like they could be related, ha! I'm surprised you let that one go!

haha! every once in a while, i get a few minutes of "dull" and i just stop and enjoy it. ;)

lukkiirish, no permanent puppies for me. way too much work and that getting up in the middle of the night stuff is for people much younger than i! i did enjoy the little guy's visit but one night was plenty for me!

I hear ya, I'm in puppy mode myself. I have been trying to talk my husband into another lab for months, but he's just not buying it. :c(

Your Gentle Giant is precious. Puppies are so much fun, and so much work. I'm in puppy mode too, but know too much to just jump in again.

Sleeping through the night is a good thing.

How cute! How could you not keep him? I've kept found dumped dogs simply because one of my others really liked them...

He is adorable!! In the first picture he didn't look that small, but next to Samson, it's clear he is just a little pup. So nice of the big guy to befriend him. That is neat that you could do something like that to help out!!

So much for the mothering instincts of the girls, lol! What a cutie, and such sweet pictures of wee dane and Samson. What a gentle boy he is. <3

linda, i am not not physically able to tackle the ups and downs of puppyhood! this little guy is SO tiny (although he has grown a LOT since he's been with his foster mom) and dane puppies are a whole 'nuther story!

i was so surprised that the girls had absolutely no interest in him and was equally surprised at how samson reacted to him. it was almost as if i had got him a living, breathing toy. he played with the pup and escorted him outside every single time we went out for a potty break, even in the middle of the night. he was very attentive to the puppy and was ever so gentle with him. it was fun to watch them interact!

I remember our neighbor's beloved boxer teaching my bichon puppy what big-boy peein' outside was all about.

"See, first you sniff, then you lift, then you pee!".

There seemed to be a dim bulb go off in bichon's head that said, "ohhhhhhhhhhh...".

So, I'm not surprised Sampson rose to the occasion ;-)
