    Why do so many designers on here use FLAT paint? I don't get it. Not even an eggshell. I know with Flat paint you can touch up easily, but a little bit glossier sheen would allow you to wipe it down if necessary. I just don't get it.

    My guess would be that designers choose flat paint for aesthetic reasons as opposed to functional; flat paint looks more modern and warm, and provides color without distracting the eyes from other important visual elements in the room. Any shine or sheen, however slight, would take away from the cohesiveness of the room design, in my opinion. It would draw attention to the fact that a wall exists as a static, individual physical structure, as opposed to supporting/infusing the look of the room with an overarching mood. Flat paint gives the other elements in a room a sense of liveliness and gravity that is disturbed when gloss makes things stale, cold, and plastic. Just my artistic intuition and analysis!
