Adding a hand/gaurdrail

Love the uncluttered design but everywhere I've ever lived in the US has code requiring a handrail.** Design-wise: How would you add one?

**After 14 years in a power chair, I can also attest that guard rails are a good idea. Ice, snow and even rain can make navigating a ramp perilous. Guard rails have kept me out of trouble a number of times!

It might be a good idea to have a handrail on there, but as for building code requirements, it depends on the slope of the ramp as to whether or not it must have a handrail.

If you were to add a handrail to that ramp, I'd think the best way would be to do it like a railing on a deck - attach balusters on the side board of the ramp and mount the handrail on top. Home Depot sells 6 ft sections of railing that you can mount directly to that ramp.

Ilike the ramp & non clutter also agree with handrail for safety. Good to know Home Depot as ells 6ft sections of railings that can mount to ramp
