I love that celadon tile too, but I'm seeing a bit more gold than green tones in your granite...

what about a white subway tile to go with the white cabinets. There is a lot of movement and different colors in the granite so I think that would be a good balance so the backsplash not only doesn't compete with the countertop but then the eye is drawn to the beauty of the countertop. I worry if you go with anything dark it is going to look too dark overall and the cabinets are going to stick out like a sore thumb.

A larger tile (4x12) would look nice. In a taupe or gray.

When you go to cut glass tile make sure you have the correct blade in the wet saw and watch to see when it needs changing.

tmac1 - my BF doesn't want to do white tile as it will not be the same white as the cabinets. I understand not wanting to compete though!

Jillian - yes the large tiles are sounding quite interesting. A warmer taupe may be good. :)

We had a very similar granite in our last home and used a warm color, due to the earthy feel in the granite. This a bit too grey, but if you could find something that had a touch more mocha (to compliment your lights' shades as well) using white grout, so they tie in to the cupboards. I would recommend bringing home lots and lots of samples, as it's not an easy granite. I also like the vertical shape, going up behind the stove especially. Using bronze hardware will keep with the warm tones and also compliment the fixtures' metal.

IMO I would suggest a tile in the tones of your flooring in order to pull everything together

I agree with Jillian-interior design student, I would do a taupe or grey tile. I think the 2x9 size will add a more transitional look

How do you plan to layout the tile above/behind the cooktop?

Before I noticed your cooktop I was going to suggest no backsplash at all. Anyway, how about olive green?

Please do not do some fancy different tile behind the stove it will look dated and add to the business.

Your old sample looks good, but I'd bring home a bunch, as there are a lot of tones and undertones available in your counter, and each will change the feel of the room a bunch. I'd go for a warm gray crackle tile, but it depends on your taste. Are you keeping the yellow walls? because if so, that needs to be factored into your choice, and it will remove a lot of the cooler options.
