When you remove your current counter tops, you'll lose your back splash. If you have any extra tiles, they may be able to salvage most of it, but you'll need to re-tile the bottom row, at minimum. Also, your new solid surface counters won't be as thick as your formica is now, so you'll be adding an additional bottom row or two.
