they are quite nice pieces? why is not the tiled floor indicating this should be the casual tv room?

It's hard to know what to say when I can't see what's in the other directions. What is over to the left? What are you planning on using the room for?

We have a large dark brown leather sectional to the left with a french buffet (dark top with a green grey chalk finish), used as a console for our TV. Our walls are light grey.

I agree that more information about the other rooms and overall floorplan would be helpful.

How many of your are there? are there any children? ages, number? You could fill with shelves, have a library, game center. craft center.

I think if you had a larger rug grounding your sitting area that what you have could work.

It's actually an organ (not a desk) that is going!

Perhaps shelving all along the wall to the right to house books and a few art pieces. Then a small game table and a comfy reading chair. Any of those chairs could then be moved over to the other seating area if you had a larger gathering of people (who want to see the TV, for example).

The floors at already a tan brown color. It's already got a vintage vibe to it. I would say get rid of the curtains and use some cool modern blinds and decorate minimalists. Light clean and bright colors. Add a rug. Don't use that many dark colors. Dark is uninviting. That room has lots of potential for awesomeness, just think light and simple and let your creativity speak. Be quirky with weird little gadgets ( not saying antiques) just random decorations that add charisma that can start a conversation to any room.

Liking the book shelves idea on the wall...and rugs would cozy up the space. I like the furniture you have but other comfortable reading chairs would work too.

Also, lighting is very important for atmosphere...maybe a floor lamp or two. Also, if you plan on food or drink in that room, side tables or something to set drinks on.

Bookcases can be so creative...if you do a search on Houzz for bookcases, you will get loads of ideas!

I also agree about the curtains; maybe Roman blinds would work well there.

I realized you do have occasional tables so side lamps could also add ambient lighting, although I still think a floor lamp in your sitting area would work well.

poo, I at least appreciate that you are now willing to share a variety of your art, but how many women want to hang a giant pic of another woman's chest?

I would start with a large rug and choose a color from that for your furnishings, drapes ( no shades/blinds), walls, etc. Before choosing colors, do as was suggested.....use lamps! Turn off any overhead lighting and open the drapes. Natural light shows a home at its peak.

Good idea on large rug, and then using that to pull colors from for the rest of the room. I do that all the time myself and it works very well. Currently colors are pretty neutral.

A rug with some variety of colours in it (similar to the one in your seating area now) would work well, rather than plain like the one in the TV area.

It's pretty much a no fail decorating technique. You need a rug that's larger than the one you've got though which I'm guessing is a 5 x 7?

Grapefruit, I'm curious why you say no blinds? Do you think the room needs the softness of the curtains?

The terra-cotta color in the rug that you have there now works nicely with the room. It's an earthtone but it's warm. More terra-cotta on the floor it would be nice.

Blues and greens would be work in this room also, and would go well with the brown.

It's a little hard to tell what color the furniture is in the TV part of the room but you could pick up on that colour in a rug.

The suggestion of a large painting on the wall is a good one. Something with some colour would liven up the space, and something larger on the wall would make the space more intimate.
