I do like your cabinets, but put a greyish marble look granite top. This would change the look a lot when done and you only have the expense of counter top.

I would choose a stone that has some warm colors in it to enhance the cabinets. Gray is going to be cool neutral on neutral.

Also, possibly switch out the hardware…I read every blog of hers before my kitchen reno (yes I do have white) but I don't suggest it in your case :) NO busy countertop, NO accent tiles, etc. Those are the things that date a kitchen in 10 years. The only thing that is "dated" at all about your kitchen is the panels on the fridge. I don't see that much anymore, so just get a pretty fridge and other new appliances.

I have wood cabinets and am keeping them. Even "Fixer Upper" has done a couple of wood kitchens lately - one mid tone and two dark.

I am getting new countertops too - going with a pretty white quartz with some gray and little bit of beige in it.

take one of the cabinet doors with you and go to your local stone place. Look at the various granites (and quartzs). Then go home and wait several days. Repeat. It takes a lot of looking and thinking. Do not waste money on new cabinets. Yours look great, Just update appliances -that's enough to have to think about.

How about soapstone? It's a gorgeous stone and you can get it in various shades of gray from almost black to silver. Again, stay away from the over-done, wildly variegated stuff.

I think your cabinets look great, of course I am biased since I am in the midst of a kitchen remodel which includes installing cherry shaker cabinets. Changing the appliances, hardware on the cabinets, and the counters will give you an updated look. The variety of stone counter choices is amazing, I started out looking for gray with white streaking, and have ended up Costa Smeralda, which is green. Gives me some color, w,ithout being in your face. Look at granite countertop pictures in Houzz to get some ideas, and then go look at slabs. When you see something you like, go for it. Good luck!

Your cabinets do not have a lot of grain - which gives wood "movement", but wood in general has more movement than painted cabinets. So you want to keep your backsplash and countertop a little understated - and with a hint of warmth. In the olden days, wooden washstands had marble tops, so if you are looking at quartz, some of the marble look ones, especially those that have a bit of beige or warmer "veining" are some you might consider.

My cabinets are oak and have more movement because of the more pronounced grain, so I am really keeping it understated. My sister has dark stained Alder, and she has a busy granite - it really is pretty and it works, but getting all that pattern to work takes care. She has a very open kitchen which helps, while mine is small and closed.

I am going with this one below, and there are many similar. It is not a real "marble look" quartz, though it has a bit of the marble idea. This is LG brand White Pearl also sold by Riverstone (through Menard's) as Flaked Pearl. I hope to have mine installed in the next 6 weeks and will post it in "my pics" in my idea book.
