Silverware drawer

I want to put my silverware drawer just to the side of my dishwasher but from my dishwasher to the edge of the cabinets is only 15" so maybe a 12" drawer is that too small for a silverware organizer?

I made my own organizer. A 12" drawer isn't going to be 12" on the inside, of course, so it might be tight.

Here's mine - the wood dividers are only 1/4", so they don't take up a lot of space. This drawer is in a 17" cabinet.

Yes, I think it's too narrow. I currently have two 15" drawers for my silverware, and I wish I had about 50% more space.

Of course, what you include with silverware also matters; for example, I see that in the picture above Ann has included her ice cream scoop with silverware -- how many such items do you want to store in this area ... or do you have a separate place for the ice cream scoop, the vegetable peeler, etc.?

Could you go with two silverware drawers, one on top of the other? Or a drawer within a drawer?

This is my silverware drawer, just everyday stainless. There's a little space in the back that would be accessible with full extension drawers. I have other drawers for all my gadgets.

Really depends on what you want to keep in there - and how much. Figure out how much room your utensils take up, and whether you want/need to keep them all in the same place. I keep my desert forks and my soup spoons in a separate drawer from the rest of my silverware.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the feedback and the pictures were super helpful!

Mine has useable interior dimensions of 19w x 12-7/8d -- so, turned 90 degrees, it would be similar dimensions to your drawer. This was more than enough for my flatware, and then some.

What insert is that, please, javiwa?

writersblock -- It's called DIY Excited DH Got a New Tool to Play With insert. :) Homemade, but got inspiration from folks who semi-DIYed with Lee Valley hardware and poplar project boards from BigBox.

Okay, this is proof positive that everyone needs to measure for him or herself. I have silverware for 24 ... plus matching steak knives ... plus two types of soup spoons ... plus loads of serving pieces. One size doesn't fit all.

LOL, Mrspete, now that you mention it, it would be nice to have my serving pieces in with my stainless! "Wider, full-extension silverware drawer" now on list for new kitchen...
