If the brick looks orange to you, I would paint the brick. Then see if you want to paint the upper siding. Maybe the upper windows should have shutters like the lower ones. Once you have chosen to leave or paint the siding, you can choose a color for the shutters.

I like Astonia Stone Artisans' suggestion to paint the wood cream and leave the brick; however, I might remove the shutters altogether.

Thanks! The windows are actually a tan color so I was thinking about creating a contrast in the wood color, maybe a charcoal?

I would not paint the brick. Painting brick can ruin the brick by trapping moisture in - not always just something to consider. Painting brick is a VERY PERMANENT thing so I would exhaust all other options first. Plus I don't think your brick color is too bad. I think it looks more orange because of the paint colors above.

I agree with Astonia's suggestion of a lighter cream color. I would also not use the very dark brown trim. Painting that an off white (not stark white) with a tan for the wood siding would really soften things up. You could also 'hide' some of the brick with large shrubs and trees.

One more thing... if you are doing this project yourself, you should look into buying a Pivit Tool to get to the second floor. It is available at Sherwin Williams (and I am sure online). It will help you set up a ladder safely on the slight hill. They are about $100 but well worth it to be safe. Good luck with your project!

This color palette would work well with (and help de-emphasize) the orange in the brick.

I would paint the siding the darkets color in the brick maybe even a deep charcoal to bring out the black in the bricks and a medium tone color or medium grey for trim with a light colored door.

Paint the brick and siding!! You will not be sorry! It will look like a whole new house. I will be painting my brick this summer. Good luck!

I agree. We are so happy with the results from painting everything one color!

Just be sure to get masonry paint and understand the impact of moisture trapped in the bricks - especially if you're in a cold climate where the water can freeze and make the bricks crumbly.

Freezing will never be a problem seeing as I am in South West Louisiana.;) Moisture and humidity are a concern though.
