Miracle grow

Okay, before I get my head severed for mentioning miracle grow, let me first ask; I realize sansevieria are not very heavy feeders and all but if I were to fertilize could I use the new crappy miracle grow foam that has an analysis of 1-1-1? I realize that the old miracle grow had too high of certain ingredients but since this is more balanced is it safe to use?

I would hope that no member in this forum would sever your head for mentioning miracle grow, that wouldn't be very nice. I use miracle grow products and have no complaints. :)

I don't know anything about the fertilizer you mentioned.

I have not seen the foam. I use Miracle Grow and other water soluble fertilizers fairly regularly. I also use their soil (and other brands) usually mixed with other ingredients.

I've used old MG powder that I have, no beheading here, not sure I've confessed it before, now. I do wish to mention several things.

Some folks who grow succulent don't fertilize them much. Also it's Winter, I wouldn't fertlize them now while they're in slower growth, I'd wait 'til Spring to even consider it. Then maybe only 1/2 the recommended dose & see how it goes.

Yes I should have mentioned above I don't fertilize in winter, but when I do fertilize I will not avoid MG products.

I don't know about the 1.1.1 formula but I really do not like miracle grow. I find the growth rates with MG very patchy and sporadic. I know this is an aside but I was watching a youtube channel just yesterday that had a list of videos where the poster was comparing miracle grow soil to other commercial soils and after a few weeks the MG plants had yellowing leaves and looked very nutrient deprived. This happens a lot with synthetic fertilizers. Feeding with miracle grow is like giving a diabetic a candy bar. Sure there will be a lot of energy and wonderful growth immediately but after a very short while the plant will decline, much like a diabetic coma. I much prefer slow release fertilizers for my plants or something a little more natural. If you're interested, you can see his experimental videos. You'll have to weed through them to find the ones I'm talking about, but they are all very interesting nonetheless.

Yeah I am not crazy about using their soil uncut. I usually mix it with real compost, perlite, some composted bark/mulch, maybe some sand.....a pinch of this, a bit of that. I do wish that they wouldn't add fertilizer to their other products like peat moss or perlite. If you want perlite for rooting you don't want fertilizer. I like to use peat and sometimes perlite for Sarracenia and you certainly don't want fertilizer there. I prefer to add fertilizer at my own schedule thank you!
