Color for new front door!!!

Please help me decide on a color for my new front door! I was settled on dark gray but then noticed it would just blend in with the opaque glass. I'm open to any suggestions for color. I cannot stain it since my door gets so much sunlight in the morning, so paint is the only way to go. Thanks!

I kind of liked the green that you eliminated but the turquoise might be fun.

I like the deep red/maroon...looks rich. We're not helping you much, are we? Maybe a wider shot of the whole house would help.

Here's a wider shot of the house. Btw, did not eliminate the smaller samples in the middle picture. I ended up adding those after I put up the big ones. Thanks for suggestions so far. I'm open to any opinions.

Love the new door, very modern, but is that the style of the rest of the house? A wide shot of the whole facade would be helpful.

Would you consider a glossy black door? I think it would look dramatic yet stand out.

I like either of the blues. The lighter would give you a more fun look, but the darker blue might go better with the style.

    The red would look great.

I liked the dark blue until I saw the wide shot of the house. Then I liked the orange.

Red ...It's supposed to to be a welcoming colour for a front door

Still like the deep red! Second choice is the blue to the left of it. Don't think the turquoise would accent your house well.

    A red. For good luck.
I think the dark blue off-sets the orange color and tones it down.
Maroon or the dark greys that go with the roof. Other colors fight with the brick color.
    Go with the dark grey.
Looking at the whole house, I still like the dark blue. It picks up the lighter color of roof, without it being the same gray color. It does take a little of the red from the brick which I think is needed.

@flopsycat1, the exterior of the house is traditional and the interior was, but we recently remodeled the interior to modern. The door definitely goes well with the interior. Can't do much about exterior but we will be replacing the porch lights to modernize it a bit more. Nevertheless, we talked to a designer about the door before going with this one and he thought it would work well.

What color did the designer suggest?

    Maybe this will help.

    #2

    The darker blue.

Groveraxel, your the bomb! Either grey gets my vote.
Red looks really nice if you want a pop of colour. Otherwise the first one !!

great idea Groveraxel....I, too, like the grey....pulls out the roof color

I suppose I should opine, as well. FWIW, I think I like the dark red best, the light gray second best.

Turquoise - lower right - for sure!

I think the door is quite modern for the style of this house, so to dial it down a notch I would go black, followed by the dark blue and then the gray. If this was a MCM house I would take on the fun colors but the house is to stately for that.

Good afternoon. Grey or dark blue look really good in our opinion. Gloss finishes are very nice, but typically not very durable. Colors are a very personal choice - go with what you feel is right. Best of luck! Please share the final results here. Thank you.

    Black

Cranberry and the navy blue next to it...

I like color #2 in Grover's helpful array. Would you consider BM Newburg Green?

After seeing the house I would do black as that door really is a MCM door and not really right for the house you could sell it and get the right style but if not black is the way to go

The darker blue - most definitely.

Thanks grover! i agree that door does not feel right with that house. But choice is done - maybe we could turn the house inside out?

Barring that, i guess, I would go with the dark red or dark blue. My second thought is, in florida, paints often do not hold up well due to sun. Have seen both reds and blues go to purple within two years. Most often they stain and then use marine varnish or something heavy like that. So, I am not sure the principle is correct?

lighter grey for me. i am having the same issues turning my moderately traditional home into modern {with sensibility - a difficult thing to do for sure}...i would LOVE that door on my home.

    Love the colour Photoshopping :)
I had already chosen the light blue and Photoshop confirmed it:)

My neighborhood has a lot of brick about that color including my house which has the red color door. The deeper blue looks great, the dark gray will have the effect of black without overpowering the brick color which can look sallow or washed out next to certain colors.

I think the glossy black idea is the best one, even though it wasn't one of the choices

I think glossy black or dark gray to tie into roof. Place urns of flowers on each side of door for color.

Now that I see the larger photo including the roof, of the samples shown, I'd pick the upper left dark grey.

But, even though you've not got a swatch of the one I think would be best, I opt for high gloss BLACK. And antique brass Door knocker, door handles, kick plate and substantial exterior lighting. Classic and classy.

One more suggestion... If possible, severe trimming back of shrubs on either side of door. They are obscuring the overall look. If not doable I'd tear them out and start again. Make sure to use a good larger size lanterns... To small for the stateliness of your home.

#1 the deep red #2 the deep Gray.

Just remembered, read Sherwin Williams has an app now where you can take a picture of something with a color you love and they'll make that color for you. You can have your own, personal color!

Would you ever consider chocolate brown? That is in you brick but very little.
@Isemartha, completely agree with you about the shrubs. That's a project to complete in the next couple of months. Those shrubs have been there since we built the house almost 22 years ago. We have them trimmed regularly but they have just gotten too big. We will have them removed, I just have to find what to replace them with. Also, I am already looking for new porch lights, but will pick them out once the door is painted.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! Thanks also for the photoshop, that was awesome! It's safe to say that there is no consensus here, it just boils down to personal taste. I decided against the dark gray or any dark color because when you see it in person, it tends to blend in with the glass. I also asked the designer I worked with a while back and he said, knowing how the inside of my house looks, and knowing my personality, he would go with a brighter color. I ended up picking the bright red (it looks a bit orange in the picture but it's closer to red). It's Sherwin Williams habanero chile. The inside of the door will be stained so I still need to pick that. Painter comes next week so hopefully it will all be done by the end of the week. I'll update with pics once it's done.

I just did mine with Positive Red by Sherwin Williams, and I think it would be great for your door too!
