And please realize that torturing of Phalaenopsis orchids has been dealt with thoroughly and a good search will tell you everything you could possibly need to know about what is wrong with this poor plant.

That orchid is dehydrated and in need of more water. Only use pure water (distilled/spring water), or you will come up with other problems. It also needs to be repotted into a new well draining mix that is more inorganic than organic. Unfortunately, I do not know the exact mix, but you could look around on this forum for a good mix.

Also note that if you repot before it stops blooming, the blooms will fall.

It is dehydrated, but I'm guessing not because it's underwatered since OP says it's been watered recently.

Can you help us learn a little more about the orchid:

What zone or where are you located in the world?

What is the light level?

What is the humidity level?

How do you water (frequency and quantity)?

Do you fertilize and if so, how much and how often?

What is the temperature range in your location?

Do you grow indoors or outdoors or both?

Remove the spike, trim off dead roots and repot. Have the boss spring for another phal, they are inexpensive at the big box stores. With some TLC this one should survive and then there'll be two..

Thank you for the answers! My boss is getting a bigger pot for it as well as the proper media and food. It is in zone 7a and in an air conditioned office. it sits in a window sill where it gets filtered morning sun and gets watered when the media is dry.

If there is a more humid place it could live and grow and then bring it back when it is blooming. I have 3 plants that I grow but when they bloom they are needed elsewhere.

I would pot it in a bark mix not spagnum moss. I only water my phal once a week. It might vary with you depending on how hot and dry the office is.

I completely agree with the others about putting it in a bark mix. I've never been able to keep orchids alive in moss. I usually repot immediately after bringing them home, even if they're still blooming.
