Matching cabinets

We are renovating our kitchen and would like to rearrange the cabinets in the kitchen and add a few others (like actual corner cabinets).

We can not find the manufacture printed anywhere on the cabinets, how do we find that out in order to have the new cabinets match?

Even if you could find them they would not match as wood changes color over the years so I would suggest you paint the ones you have and then get the ones you want with glass doors on top if you really want corner cabinets. There are lots of inserts to put in cabinets that help use the dead space. I think your kitchen looks great just the way it is for cabinets.

Thank you and that's a good point. We would like to gel stain them darker so not worried too much about an exact hue match, just the door trim itself.

What a great suggestion, Patricia Colwell! Glass cabinet fronts. I'd like to think that if I had more coffee, I would have thought of it myself.

Before you follow advice about painting be forewarned that oak is a bugger to paint. There will be a great deal of priming, sanding and sealing to deal with the pronounced grain of oak = $$$ to pay a pro. Upgrade your appliances, lighting, hardware and countertops before biting off resurfacing these. You may find they look great after the other things are done.

Your best bet would be to have a cabinet maker make new boxes and doors for you. Even if you plan on staining them, the new will never match the existing. It's very unlikely that you'll be able to strip those down to bare wood so you can start on a level playing field. I agree with Patricia and Rusty that your best bet is to upgrade the other surfaces and add inserts for maximizing storage. Rev a Shelf is a good place to look for after market inserts. You have a great layout and an amazing amount of counter and storage space. Until you're ready for a full remodel, do a nice laminate countertop and upgrade your flooring. You can even do undermount sinks with laminate now. IMO, you'll save yourself a lot of time and headache over trying to remove and rearrange cabinets. Good luck with your project!

Another thought is to add small areas of open shelving if you come up a section that you cannot find an upper cabinet for.
