We're getting ready to start building our new home. The kitchen island is 5 x 8 with a 12 inch overhang for stools on the end near the breakfast room. The island also has a sink and dishwasher on the other side. I've been reconsidering the placement of the island and have it turned to where the overhang is facing the great room/dining room and the sink facing the stove. Originally I thought the corner of the island would be too close to the refrigerator door if I turned it that way. We've already signed the preconstruction contract but I can still change it for a $250 fee. I guess I need reassurance that the island will look right where I have it placed right now. I would appreciate any honest opinions.
