I don't think painted green cabinets in a Shaker style as pictured will affect your resale. I would look for a honed black absolute rather than the granite shown though.

I think it's a fun, unusual color that not everyone will like, but it sounds like it's in the best house it can be in (Craftsman style). If this is something that is already done at your house, I wouldn't worry about trying to change it for resale. If you were in a tract home, and this kitchen stands out among unrelated architecture and furnishings, then I would be more cautious.

Clarification needed: Are you saying that you already made this change or want to do it in your own kitchen in a house you won't be in for that long?

I'd be more apt to do the green cabinets if it were something you personally really loved and re-sale was not a factor. Given that you will only be in the house for 3 years, I'd go for something more "common".

We are looking at a house that needs an update. This is not my normal style but the house just seems to suit the color. This area does have slow moving real estate.

Personally I like it and there are bound to be others who like it as well, but if the real estate market in your area is sluggish and you know you will be relocating in three years, I'd play it safe. You could go with the same style of cabinet, but in either white or natural cherry.

Even if you only live there three years go with what you love and feel good with, not for resale. Lots of clients make this mistake. Things can change and you may end up staying longer than you think or something else comes along. Go with what you love now and avoid the mistake of making the kitchen too neutral.

I find this kitchen very charming and I would not hesitate to buy the house because of the kitchen, BUT there are many elements about this kitchen that make me say that. Are you just using green on your cabinets or will you also have the custom build of these cabinets, the hood, stainless appliances and wood floor?

Those elements would be part of my decision if I was looking at the house to purchase from you.

I personally love the green and black color combination, although I'd probably go with a brighter shade of green.

The kitchen is extremely small. The reason for the change is because I would move a wall about 2 feet over so two people could actually stand in the room at the same time!! Green cabinets, stainless appliances and black stone counters. There won't be room for and island. We are downsizing but not down grading.

Although I do like greens, I don't particularly like those two colours together. It will unfortunately effect resale especially if you say it's slow moving in your area. Unless the clientele is very eclectic I would stick to more neutral colours. Your other kitchen is much nicer than this one!

That is a good reason to change, more people enjoy color even if they dont think they will. Go for it!

You mentioned "slow moving real estate"...I would ask the advice of a realtor in your area..It would be a shame to have even more trouble selling due this. I like the green, but if I had a choice, was planning only to be there 3 years, I would go for something more conventional.

For a Craftsman, I d stick to earthier colors. The green would need to be a grayer green (aka sage)...and I wouldn't do uppers and lowers the same color. Neutralize the uppers to be closer to the color of the walls or wood (clear coated natural cherry or maple). The Craftsman architecture is all about natural elements and a hand-crafted-by-artisans style.

When I was house hunting...all the kitchens had been redone for resale...bland and added to the price. Do what you want...let the future owner do what they want....this kitchen is great...if you like it.

I'm a Chicago Realtor and people assume we're going to tell people to paint everything neutral. No way. You're kitchen has style and looks to be of good quality. Let a new buyer paint it or maybe offer a credit towards repainting to a serious buyer during negotiations. But only if they bring up the color of the cabinets.

Check with a local realtor in your area for ideas about resale. Three years is not very long and a good realtor should be able to predict what will help sell your home.
