Yes, particularly since the two you cite have definite dormant periods, nearly opposite of each other.

It would be better for your plants, like the P. brevicaule, to be grown outside if possible in the summer. The P. discolor, of course, is active now, and AR weather isn't favourable to its growth right now.

That's great advice for those living in the tropics (hint: that's not most of us). Most of the US isn't in a temperate zone, and as such, the advice I gave was applicable for the OP.

OP is an indoor gardener under lights... does light alone determine dormancy season or does it require heat/cool cycle too?

I'm told our pachy in Asia has reached height of house roof but I'm not there myself :) I'm stuck downunder where we've grown columnars similarly tall... but there's an obvious bulge for where it's grown every summer. Stems are much more smooth & even where it's hot all year round.

I've noticed that my pachypodiums will drop all their leaves and will have a dormancy period of a few weeks if I let the potting media go dry. While there dormant I do give them a little bit of water.
