Congratulations! My suggestion is that you should sow them all. Keep them together for at least 4 months, after which you will select the seedlings with a combination of the biggest bulbs, the most numerous leaves, the broadest leaves.

It is a " R e v e la t i o n " to me cause I didn't know it was possible....the flower is beautifull and the pods look fat and healthy. You got a super deal.

Peridot, contratulations!!!! Hoping for lots of seedlings and with Hans advice you should have lots of yourown flowers to show us in the next couple of years. Can't wait :) - J

How exciting that you were able to do this. I knew it was not impossible and I have tried it on a stalk that was failing so I cut it off and put it In water but for me it didn't work. I think you had a very healthy scape on which to work and I am surprised that you got so many good seeds!! Have fun with your seedlings, they should be beautiful!

like this in a DIY store?! The shops here just offer the classic four (red, white,
pink and striped). Most of my bulbs, I have from the internet. Then again, it
makes it a lot easier to resist buying new one…

I think I
will really sow them all at ones. I have already a little flower box with
seedlings, which I planted as suggested by Hans-Werners pieces of internet
wisdom :-) (little
H554 x Exotic Star). Surely there will fit another box alongside.

I didn’t
find it difficult to get those seeds. Maybe the health of the scape is critical.
Than you have to keep in mind, just to let the tip of the stem to go into water,
so it doesn’t rot faster than necessary. Every few days I changed water, cut
the squashy end of the stem off and added new adhesive tape. At the beginning
the stem was 50+ cm and I worried if it could feed two seed capsules. At the
end it was still 5 cm left, so it worked just fine.

Its a few weeks now
since my last comment, and those seed didn’t quite really develop
as I hoped.

After the seeds
dried a day, I put 6 of them in my heated aquarium, in a box
permeable to water. After some time only one of them sprouted.

Two weeks later I
planted half of the remaining seeds in kokohum soil. Sadly no sign of
live till now, nearly 4 weeks later.

A week after the
planting I put the last seeds in a bowl filled with tap water, and it
took two weeks till the appearance of two roots. And just now, after
nearly three weeks, two more appendage are showing. :-)

So some of them
really are growing, but the success rate of the seeds seems modest.

In the meantime, I
planted the first seedling in Soil and it looks strong and healthy
(knocking on wood). It’s a delight watching it grow.

So it is possible to
get seeds from cut flowers, but… I think I have to learn a bit more
about how to do it best. I have bought a new cut flower a few days
ago… :-)

In the end it's probably better that you only ended up with a few viable seedlings as this way you won't be inundated with too many seedlings from one cross. There will always be a next time and a next time!!

Don't forget that you can keep seeds in the refrigerator for up to a year and they will still germinate, you can also freeze pollen for a year or so too, saving some seeds for the future in case a disaster should befall your seedlings you will have more chances.

I had some seeds of Madame Butterfly selfed that I kept for nearly a year and the very last ones I geminated about 6 weeks ago all germinated!

I have made the mistake too many times to germinate too many seeds of one cross at one time!! Finally, I have learned to just germinate about 6 to 10 seeds at one time and refrigerate the others!! It was like pulling teeth to get myself to do this especially when I had in my hot little hands seeds that I was sure were going to yield gorgeous flowers. The seeds will keep for up to a year. Many times I've lost all the seedling of a gorgeous cross and could kick myself for not having kept some in reserve!!

Peridot and Donna, you are absolutely right, this space problem is a serious one! I try to infect friends and familiy so that they might be interested in these gorgeous plants and start to grow some seeds too. But what happened is that I gave my mother a beautiful Picotee and know it has seeds from selfpollination and she wants to give them all to me... Has anybody an idea how flowers from a Picotee self could look like?

My Gervase had only 1 seed pod (cross with a local single pale pink hippeastrum) but after 1 month the scape collaped from the bottom. I had cut the scape and put in a glass, hope that it will ripe and give some viable seeds...

as I understand, Gervase
is not a particularly good seedpot parent, so its an achievement
already, to have it carrying a seedpot for at least one month. I wish
you luck, that you can get some germinable seeds out of your cross.
