I've grown flax before. I can't remember that varieties but some had red flowers and some were blue. The airy habit of it makes it a nice filler between plants and it's so easy to grow

I had some blue flax almost 20 yrs ago. It was awesome! A pale blue one. Linum perenne. I've never seen the plants from your pic. Those are perky & cheerful! These pics are from '03.

Yes, I've grown linum perenne before, it's perennial and smaller flowered, but new flowers every day.

I grew annual red flax from seed I purchased at Horn Seed one year. I had no volunteers the next year. The flowers have a dark edge making them look photoshopped when shot with a camera. The plants only bloomed in spring and then I have no memory, I think they sort of faded away.

Hmm, TR, my red flax that I had two or three years ago bloomed pretty much all summer, but then it was a cool rainy year. And yes, I was aware of the slime factor, so I directly sowed.

Woops I'd deleted that soaking seeds part = slime. I have this frustrating problem with posting pictures and when I reposted the wider shot, the whole text disappeared. Am I the only one who has this problem? It started about a month and a half ago. Used to be I could post a lot of pictures on one post but now, only one picture per post and/or only one link per post. No link and a picture in a single post. It has to all be done on separate posts. Why?

Nope, I had to edit the flax post three or four times to not lose either picture or some text.

Both the perennial blue and the annual red seem to flag once it gets really hot. I lost all the blue ones in the front by July last time I tried them. Cooked. They do better in shadier spots but tend to flop.

Well, with where I sowed them, if they go away by mid-June, it'll be fine...as other things will be filling out by then. I planned for the possibility :) (which is another way of saying...wow my beds are gonna be crowded)

TR- I think the picture posting problem might be browser related. I have to go into firefox to post photos, explorer gives me problems....
