Entryway Design Help

We recently renovated our house and now have a completely open floor plan on the first floor. I am having a hard time figuring how to design this space and what furniture would work best. I just feel like there is now wasted space, and corners unused. Any ideas on what to do with this space?

What did you have in mind when you started the project? Surely you had an idea about how you'd use the space. It looks like you've got all the seating crammed in the rear of the new area. Where do you eat? Where is the kitchen? For one thing, I can tell you that everything is hung too high on the walls, including the TV. The FP is your focal point and needs to become a gathering spot. You might consider a four-chair grouping around a coffee table or hassock to fill that space. You'd need a larger rug though. Try moving the sofa table to the wall where you have the two long rows of photos. Hang the mirror above it vertically. The photos, and the others on the opposite side of the room, are a bit overkill, IMO. I'd rather see them all climbing the stairs or running down a hallway. Any other hanging art or mirrors should hang with bottom frames 5" above furniture, or center point of piece or grouping 5' above the floor.

heftier chairs?

Perhaps a big hall tree to the side of the door opposite the fireplace and two huge comfy overstuffed chairs in front of the fireplace.

Those chairs are not welcoming try some comfy looking chairs in the space would be nice spot to sit and have a drink with a friend. A bigger rug and drapes that go with the chairs and the rug and not so much small stuff on the mantel.

I would do 4 comfy club chairs with round coffee table at the fireplace.

What was this room before? You seem trapped by the idea that it's an entryway, while to me it looks like a living room. At minimum, I'd set it up as a conversational space, with a loveseat and two arm chairs facing each other across the fireplace. That would still leave plenty of space for an entry bench, etc. near the front door.

It's really hard to give advice without a floor plan of the whole floor. I'd be tempted to put the TV to the right of the fireplace and make this your main living space, but I can't tell what happens down at your crowded living room end and around the corner...

Some nice recommendations here. I'm not sure what is to the left of the front door. Perhaps put a wall table there with a tray or basket to hold keys, etc. Possibly a plant on the table and/or a table lamp as well.
