You might consider hanging a throw on the corner ladder and using smaller branches on the mantle. Maybe instead of a frame on the one side, add a lantern in a brown or black for more contrast and to add a different shape and height.

Have you considered white washing the brick for a more country look?

I feel that your fireplace and hutch are fighting each other. I'd like to see the hutch and sofa switched. Would the sofa then be against the windows? Consider painting your glass and wooden piece in a dark shade. I'm a big fan of Benjamin Moore's Darryl Carter color "Bayard" It's charcoal and navy, with lots of depth that would give your piece more visual presence. You could paint your floor lamps in that same hue. I think your medallion on the fireplace would show up more and be more decorative if it was a shade of white. Consider painting it BM's "Simply White" or "White Dove" as warm whites. I'd add some candleholders a la Joanna Gaines, chunky and off white.

I really hope you don't paint your walls. You're making more of a statement, with less color than with doing the same thing most people are doing. Just make more of a statement with your accessories. Pillows can reinforce and bring in more color.

Your room space is great maybe choose a different frame on the wall and put some wall shelf's on the fireplace for some extra pizzaz and maybe change the carpet to a cute design that would really open up the room good luck with this project

I think I would just change the carpet with a pattern/multiple colors one. I like the white walls and the neutrals in furniture and the minimalist art on the wall.

Add some textured and printed pillows.

Add some textured pillows with shine and beading, change out your lamp shades to something interesting and lower the décor over sofa. Add a coffee table and rug to area.

Add a vintage olive bucket with white birch wood.

Some cozy textured throws. Maybe animal print pillows.

I like your space and you've arranged things well. Have you considered painting or distressing the hutch and I think you could beef up the wooden mantel for more impact.

A cream pillow and throw on the leather chair and a light color side table there will lighten up that side.

The top things you can do with the biggest imapct (in order of importance):

1. Remove carpet/rug and get something with a pattern and more visual interest

2. Remove hutch. Doesnt fit well there or go well

3. Paint fireplace white. Not a whitewash. Do full coverage white

Other than that just add some pillows and art that you love. But those are the 3 things Id do

You could put it on the fireplace like everyone else. Possibly paint the hutch to blend it in. Imo I think it's fine. I would move it away from the fireplace, though.

Re: Fixer Upper,....looking at the photos, I think you have too many 'honey wood tones' in your furniture. Minimal changes really to achieve a lighter feel-I would suggest painting your hutch and both side tables an off white and distress lightly.

I am referring to the side tables that are the one next to the ladder in the corner and the one next to the leather chair. One is a honey wood tone and the other is darker....both tend to overwhelm the areas they occupy. You already have a wood ladder in the corner, and the leather chair is plenty of warm tones for that space-lighten up those tables! The hutch in an off white, distressed, would also fit in and offer a lighter feel.

Chalk paint is a great option for this-no priming and easy to distress. ;) Good luck!

Your hutch is fine, please do not put TV over FP. Remove the ladder and get a table lamp for the table. Add a potted tree to balance the armoire.

Susan thats exactly what i was going to do! I may distress some brick to lighten that space up a tad...
