The noise.

Not sure, but it seems like every home-remodel/new house I see these days is a white house with a metal roof.

Metal roofs are only noisy when installed on purlins, with no decking, and no insulation. Like an old barn. A properly insulated attic will not transmit very much exterior noise, and metal flat on the sheathing or over a foam layer won't make much noise.

Personally I love the small amount of noise that rain creates on the roof. The higher price is small and if you live around lots of trees it is great material for the long term.

We have a metal roof and we love the look of it. You do hear the rain but it is kind of soothing. I live in Ontario Canada so we do get a lot of snow in the winter. The snow slides off and does make quite a bit of noise. Our attic is sprayed with foam insulation.
