I was planning to take my daughter back to California to visit her brothers then come home but I think we're sending her on a plane instead. I was hoping to visit one of my favorite nurseries while there. I realized it was an expensive week and a half long trip just to go to a nursery when I could probably call the owner and have him send me something nice. I can't justify the expense after buying a new gaming computer.

That's what I thought Shine Eden's plant was. I keep seeing pictures of it online under that name. I just came across sansevieria aubrytiana and it looks the same.

Yes it does look the same, but it would take an expert to say for sure. The one in my photo was terribly root bound. I think it would grow into a large plant if given a chance.

I was on Bob Smoley's website and he has both of those listed. From the description Jaboa will get larger than the Aubrytiana and looks nicer. Jaboa can have a 4" wide leaf and get 30" tall.

I took a measure since they are still laying there waiting the rhizomes division to dry, the widest leaf is 3 3/4" and the tallest is around 27" from the base

Next Obsession, no, not yet. Still thinking. My nursery had a large Bantels sensation, but 40.00 made me hesitate. I really do have to be careful about overdoing it with large plants until my dog gets old enough to lose interest. Plants all have to be up out of her reach.

Barbmock, you are dog person too? What breed do you have? I have Labrador Retriever and American Cocker Spaniels. I used to breed and show them. :)

IMHO Jaboa is the easiest Sans to grow. Actually it really grow on neglect. I started mine with 1 leaf (with its rhizome) and look what it gave me... LoL...

Sorry guys, we're going a little off topic here. But, yes I'm a dog lover. We have had 2 cockers and a Cavalier spaniel in the past. But our current pet is Penny, a Westie. She is a little over a year old and still a pup. That funny looking collar vibrates when she barks. She's really a fun dog.

What a cute Westie you have Barbmock!! I have a friend who breed & show Westie and who is also a Dog show judge, he said westie is an excellent rodent hunter. As a terrier, it is their instinct to dig holes in the ground. :)

Awe, what a sweetie you have there. I have a friend who always has labs. They are so smart, wonderful dogs. Yes I do know what fun it is to dig in the dirt.

I'm a dog lover too. Westie's are big dogs in small packages, yes? I used to have a yellow Lab and a Golden Retriever, such loving dogs. I have 2 hairless dogs now, aPeruvian and a Xoloitzcuintli. Very different being primitive breeds all the instincts are there (and I can wear black again!).

You are right, westies think they are big stuff. Penny's not afraid of anything. She loves to run and play with big dogs. I'd love to see your dogs, not familiar with thse breeds

I have two Borzoi and a Boston Terrier now.I've had

four retired racing greyhounds, another Boston Terrier from a shelter a Borzoi Saluki mix from a shelter and a couple of small mixes all from a shelter.

My girl dog, Yana - she's the Peruvian.

akrrm, I am very fond of sighthounds. Here is a pic of a breed I admire, there is a breeder near Fresno. They are from the Sahel (desert dogs) in Africa.

Beautiful! My aunt used to show afghan hounds when I was little. I had a whippet in high school and an Ibezian Hound when my second son was a baby. We also gad a greyhound when he was a toddler. I would give almost anything to have another sight hound. I'm thinking an IG next time but first I need a fenced yard.

OMG! Yana is soooooooo beautiful!!! Love her!!! My daughter's favorite dogs are Peruvian Inca Orchid & Xoloitzcuintli, so when she told me about it, I search the web, and guess what, this pic of Yana popped up in the first page, and she is the one that caught my eyes! And she is yours!!! Love to see your Xoloitzcuintli, I can't pronounce it correctly, but my daughter can... LOL... :) Is your Xoloitzcuintli hairless too or the coated one? Do you need to put lotion on their skin?

I love primitive ancient breed too, I love Basenjis, Thai Ridgeback as well...

Never seen a Borzoi, Saluki & Greyhound in real life. We don't have them here even in the show ring. Only the smaller version of greyhound, the Whippet.

Love The Afghan Hound as well, very glamorous dog! But when I learn about the grooming, scissoring, etc, I backed off... LoL... Remember there is or was a great Afghan Kennel in US, The Grandeur Afghan... Such an amazing breed...

Ibizan Hound is also very nice. Love to see them in Westminster Kennel Club Show.. :)

Yes, she was chewing dried chicken feet I bought from petshop. It will remind her that she is a Gundog, at least what's left of her... If she was bred to carry bird/game in her soft mouth, now chicken feet will do... LoL... :)

Yana is from Lima, Peru and was the last female left. I got lucky! She grew up beautifully (I've never shown nor bred her). She is 9 years old now, that was a youthful pic of her pointing a squirrel. Here is a young pic of Van, my Xolo:

When I showed my daughter Yana & Van's pics, she shriek in delight! She is 5th grader... She said, I thought they are rare breed! They are very cute! And when I asked her how to pronounce Xoloitzcuintli, she help me with it, but eventually said, if you have a hard time saying Xoloitzcuintli, just say Mexican Hairless, ok. LoL... :)

The picture below is our Borzoi Saluki mix Albi on the left and retired racing greyhounds Kassie, Ramm (Marvin's littermate), Ruby and Marvin. They have all passed away, we really miss them. I also took my user name from their first initials.

Next Obsession (love your beautiful Yana and handsome Van) and Mentha, we love sighthounds. My husband has always wanted an Irish Wolfhound but they are just too big. I also love Scottish Deerhounds and just about any Lurcher I see a picture of. :)

Barbmock, Rocket can keep up with them. He thinks he's a sighthound and was raised with Albi, Kassie, Ramm and Ruby. He also is a big dog in a little body. Lol.

Missy is so cute, I'm so sorry for your loss. My husband's cousin has two CKCS. She even had a litter of puppies from one of hers about 5 years ago. Very cute. :)

Barbmock is that Silver Queen next to your Missy on the right? If it is can you measure the height of it?

Mine is usually about about 25" high. I have a leaf that is about 34", I didn't think they got that tall.

I'm sure it's not Silver Queen, I have a small one started though. It might be Sunrise, which I lost last year.

Unfortunately, no sight hounds here, but this is Ketulah toting her gangsta' look. Poor thing puts up with so much from my daughter. She loves her though and would do anything for her. She is one of the best dogs we've had in a long time.

This chain has gone to the dogs!! LOL!!

Shine, Ketulah's Golden and Australian Shepherd. She has been known to go a mile a minute, but is usually a very calm when nothing is going on. She also had an amazing nose and can find treats left in tall grass in the rain. She would probably be a good search & rescue dog given proper training.

Shine Eden, the greyhounds are very muscular, they have big butt muscles and couldn't even sit like a regular dog. We used to walk them every day, there were times they would run in the yard for short periods of time (they made a mini racetrack around our above ground pool) but usually they slept most of the time. So we didn't do anything special to keep them like that.

Golden is a smart breed, Australian Shepherd is also a smart breed. 2 smart breeds combined together... Bet Ketulah is very smart and eager to pleased... :)

I don't know how to train for S&C, I only know how to train for dog showing, as I am owner-handler in the show ring. We are always try to find "button" in a dog. What it means by that is, what really excite the dog so they will do anything for that. It can be treats, food, toys, anything! When we find that, then training will be very easy. :)

They looked so fit and nice... They are very lucky to find owner like you. I heard that most retired race dogs' life at the end of their career are not so good...

I am going to update this thread. I see that we had quite a dog show. That was fun.

Back to the Jaboa/aubrytiana. I did rescue that sad plant at the nursery and it has grown and filled the pot to overflowing.

. I made a trip to the nursery this week and saw a huge one, labeled Jaboa. Here it is.

They look great. How much sun do you give your aubrytiana /jaboa? Mine doesn't do much.

in the summer, they (all my sans) get a little morning sun and open shade the rest of the day, outside. In the winter, they are all competing for a little sun and light at the window. I am always afraid of sunburn outside.
