Weird stuff in light fixture

My husband went to change the bulb in one of our ceiling fixtures and there was this opaque white-ish substance, rubbery to the touch. No smell to it. We have had some issues with roaches and there were some dead ones attached to the substance. Any thoughts?

No idea...can you get a picture? Was it stuck to the light bulb or the fixture, what was its shape and size? Any chance it was melted wire insulation that ran down and hardened? Are you using the correct wattage of bulb in the fixture? Many fixtures do have limits based on the heat generated.
