Bobby, you certainly try to grow from cuttings created from pruning, though layering is easier and this isn't the best time of year to gather cuttings. Usually cuttings are done on the current season's growth when the growth is still green but not too soft, rather than the previous season's. If you have the room, nothing will be lost by trying, but I wouldn't count on having success.

Thanks...I didnt think of layering cause the stems are so brittle, but it makes sense. Guess its like when I plant a new one I usually bury the 1st set of nodes underground. I will try later on in the year thanks

I haven't tried to root clematis much but the time I did it worked. Took new growth but not too soft, as said.
