Wood Trim Dilemma

All of the trim in our house is commercial grade white trim. I switched out all of the base boards with a taller, fiber board, brown painted trim a couple years ago. We recently put in a new front door with wider (3.5") more detailed door trim which I love as a hobby woodworker. The door trim is pine with a mahogany stain, expense but adds a level of richness.

The dilemma, I would like to replace all of the commercial grade white trim on the doors with the pine, mahogany stained trim.

1) Will it be a design mistake to have a different trim color then the base boards?

2) Eventually, I want to add crown molding (high ceilings 9') but should it be white, brown painted like base boards or mahogany stained?

3) Should I trim around the windows/ currently no trim around them?

4) Is mahogany stained wood too trendy and in a few years will be out of date for resale? From a resale should I just do everything white?

Stuck and not sure how to approach? I need a designers input.
