It's not the art per say; this room looks like the waiting room to a dentists office. There isn't enough here to really play off of. Maybe if the walls had color, if there were tall , colorful lamps, large , beautiful pillows, a rug with some pattern. This room needs stuff!

Consider painting an accent wall. Easier and cheaper than art.

Put your sofa against that wall. Lamps on each end table with a colorful shade. You could also change out your rug for something with deeper colors. You do need a focal point but you don't need to add a bunch of new objects.

Seems to me like this painting goes nicely with everything except the coffee table. They are both so brown and square that they thus compete with one another for attention. One of those should win. You might choose a more interesting table or repaint the one that is there. Or you could get art that has some contrasting elements like the narrow blue rectangular pictures or splashes of yellow as others have suggested. I think red in the picture would be leaning towards an autumnal/ Xmas palette. If you want that you might want to go deeper with the wall shade and go for a cozy den feeling. Alternatively you could lighten the red and brown up seasonally with some spring and summer colors. If you only want shades of cream and brown, then I would suggest a textured wall piece like something hand-woven.

Check out IKEA. They have all sorts of decor to hang.

Grover add some tall table lamps to that nice pick to show how lamps would balance the whole thing (plus light the art itself), & add a more interesting rug, but soft. Please & thank you.

You might want to add some coffee table books and large accessories to your tables also. A large plant or something tall in the corner would help; it is a bit bare and unloved in looking.

I think the painting is lovely..not sure why you would change it! I don't think a big burst of color would be my choice when looking at your beautiful calm furnishings. I would continue the calm cool feeling you have in the room....

I really think you need to finish lamps and accessories before you return it...it really works well.

I think repeat the blue (?) color from the two chairs in your art work. The art you currently have is too blah with your furniture, but art is such a personal thing so go with what you love.

Try shopping online with Houzz, Overstock.com, Artsy, Art.com, or shopping with your local Art Open studios. The paintings doesn't work at all.

Powder baby blue is your accent pillow and art colors. All these paintings that have been sent to you are great ideas. So grab one of these abstracts. They'll make the room pop.

Hoping to hear from the poster for reactions. Really should only put a dominant piece on your walls when you love it. If you don't love it or need it, then don't keep it. A blank wall is fine. Add color in pillows.

Puremichigan..I just posted the abstract two posts above. I will be returning the painting and I am currently looking for a new one with more color, specifically teal, yellow, blue, and tiny bit of red. I can't imagine leaving the wall empty. I have a collage of frames opposite that wall so I think above the couch needs one large painting not a grouping

One more thought: rugs can be hung on walls, like a runner hung horizontally. It opens up more places to choose from.

Art is a very personal preference, but the painting scale does work in the space. It does need to be hung a little higher, which will make the ceilings look higher too and the space bigger. It does have a monochromatic look but that is not a bad thing. If you want to add just a little pop of color, adding teal lamps and/or an accent wall as suggested above is good and easy idea. I like the clean lines of your space. You could even just add a teal bowl or something to the coffee table. It is up to you what you want to be the focal point. Best of luck!

Missed your earlier posting and are you returning it because you really don't like it? I like the shape, being more horizontal rather than a wide rectangular. Subtle colors but definitely adding to your room. I can see how subtle would be best in this space and give it the most cohesion.

I'm returning because the teal in it is not as prominent as it appeared in the store. I like the size. I was not crazy about the striped look. It is the first room you see when you walk in the house and I don't want to have a piece on the wall that is not visually interesting. I bought it because I thought the colors would work

I think it is similar to what you liked in the initial painting and I think perhaps better expresses your initial vision, since it seems you were hoping for more teal. I think the wider stripes in that case, and also less brown, make it a complementary accent but slightly bolder than before.

The painting itself isn't bad--it's just that it adds to the room's flat monochromatic vibe. Is there a way to integrate some other interest on the wall with mirrors or shelves on either side with pops of color from the shelf objects? I also don't think the rug is helping much. It reminds me of a hotel sitting room--not much character and too matchy matchy

I still think the original painting works best...you need to add lamps and accessories to it...I don't think your art should take over the room...I think it was beautiful and subtle and you could of added more color in other ways. Good Luck

Have you tried the chairs sitting next to eachother on just one side of the sofa? Angled just slightly toward eachother.

The chairs are on the small side so putting them together would make them look more substantial and inviting. And having the pattern of the chairs on both sides of the sofa gives the room an unbalanced feel, like the sofa is gargantuan. A pretty throw over the back of one chair would look nice, too.

It blends far too much with the entire room. The scale and piece are a decent size, but art should pop off the walls. If the wall itself were an accent color and that were against it, then you'd have something. As is though, this piece of art fades into everything else. Be bold with your modern art style. Get something with a little color power. Even if it's "pop" art. It shouldn't blend with it's surroundings so easily.

Sweeps, FWIW, my objection to the first painting is that it's poorly composed. It has neither focus nor movement nor depth. It's not compelling nor even very interesting. I think art should give your heart at least a tiny flutter and I doubt that you got that from this one.

With respect, I think you're asking the wrong question ... as puremichigan60 says. the question with a piece of art shouldn't be "Does it go with my decor?" but "Do I love it?" If you really love it you can add other touches to contrast, as posters have said, like lamps and cushions. If you don't love it, take it back and wait until you find something you do love ... as another poster said, there's nothing wrong with living with a blank wall for a while.

Definitely brighter artwork, I think it's needs more height in the corners, bigger lamps or floor lamp, nice room

What about something modern minimal like this? Would change out the pillows keep in mind. Maybe switch out lamp to red base or teal shade?

Love the art, but I think you'll have to switch out lamp styles as well as color. Do something more MCM. Also, do you have enough room between sofa and ceiling for art this size?
