Crinum companion help

Hello all,

I have a thin strip next to a sitting area by our garden in which I've planted a few crinums (Ellen Bosanquet x 2 and 1 Carroll Abbott). There are a couple of daylillies mixed in here as well. I'd like to plant something next to the crinums to provide some contrast to the foliage, and to grow up and help cover the sorry looking crinum leaves late in the season. Any ideas? This is a hot spot that gets nearly all day sun in our central Texas zone 8b garden. Thanks.

The Crinums will retain their leaves until a hard frost. I would go for a colorful ground cover around them. If you like that idea, some plants to consider:

Tradescantia pallida.

Portulaca grandiflora (moss roses) or umbraticola (ornamental purslane.)

Any of a huge number of Sedums

Taller companions could be:

Zinnias

Dahlias

Some Gladiolus might be nice for early-season interest.

Some ground cover sedum (like blue spruce sedum) will be a good fit there.

The bonus is that they should not die back year-round in your zone.
