Any Recent Showplace Cabinet Experience?

We priced this line out awhile back but ended up not going with it. Now we are in a new house and starting a remodel of a very small kitchen. We were impressed with Showplace and now have returned to consider them (the earlier issue was with the salesperson, not the cabinets).

I've read all the previous comments about Showplace but can't find any substantial reviews recently on the web. There was a thread from the past with some negative reviews but I've found this to be true with almost any cabinets I research.

We are going with painted inset. They seem to have a few new white painted choices which is good since the previous standard selection was limited. I'd also like any comments on matte vs satin since this is also a choice to make.

Anyone? Kippy, if you are still around how has your recent experience with them been, and what advice would you give? Thanks!

I've just found this, and I'm curious about your experience with Showplace, if you went with them, as our projects might have been around the same time. We ordered our cabinets this spring, and they've been installed as part of our remodel this summer. Because of a variety of delays, some due to the cabs, we're still not moved into our kitchen. We're disappointed with our Showplace cabinets so far. I've been baffled as to how some of our cabinets made it past quality control (out of square, gaps at joints, uneven boards), and we've had to have several replaced. I'd like to hear someone else's experience, if you're willing.

I ended up going with Shiloh and am 100% happy with them. I looked closely at both Showplace and Starmark but the Shiloh won out for both cost and quality,

ckahmah- sorry for your troubles, not good to hear that you are disappointed. I've been a SWP dealer for about 5 years, less than 10 times have I needed a replacement, almost all for wood grading or color, none out of square. My only real complaint with them is the shelf clips.

On my end of things the customer service is almost on par with my high end brand. Now I haven't had an order with them in a few months but have one coming in 3 weeks. Will see what happens.

To the OP-I've found their paints to be very good and do mostly matte. Recently did a matte soft cream kitchen in a 5000 sq ft home in North Jersey with no issues (except for installer :(

Just as Cassandra has no actual experience with a complete SWP project, I have no first hand with any complete Shiloh kitchens, just hearsay, so won't comment.

OK, this is odd. I wonder if there are Showplace goblins sabotaging my posts. Will try to post the photos that I just loaded - apologies if there's an odd lag, and you end up seeing these twice.

And it's not that you see the difference only close up. I can't imagine how their inset cabinets turn out, which would require much more precise cuts. Maybe they put their A Team on the inset line.

My frustration with SP is beyond words at this point. After our appliance company installed my double ovens (Thermador, a very special splurge for me), it was discovered that the whole oven cabinet (a big one that has a cabinet on top, space for the ovens in the middle, and a drawer on the bottom) is not square. This cabinet is adjacent to other ones, has crown already installed above and marble caulked in next to it. To replace it at this point is next to impossible and we've been told to live with it and have our contractor make adjustments to make the ovens work in the not square hole. The company rep and our salesperson know the problem and simply do not care anymore. We've lost count of the number of doors and drawer fronts that we've had to get replacements for. Another cabinet was out of square but was caught in time to be replaced, but added three weeks of wait time before our backsplash could be installed (which pushed back the painters, etc., etc.). And don't get me started on little things like the shelf pins. The whole thing is ridiculous. It's mind boggling to me how any of this passes quality control, as in your case with the drawer fronts, so obviously wrong. I don't know where to go from here. To me, it seems reasonable that they refund the cost (for a bad product, time, and trouble) of the large oven cabinet. My husband says they'll never do it, but I just want them to make it right. Has anyone had success in dealing with SP for problems like these?

Javiwa, this may help, at the back of the drawer glide is a lever that control the tilt of the face. It typically offers enough adjustment, on really rare occasions loosen the front screw of the glide and slide a match book cover under it and re tighten the screw.

The widths should not be as you show. I consider a 1/16 unacceptable. Half my projects are inset, the other half are full overlay. It looks as if you have traditional? Maybe they get lazy there, no excuse though.

Ckahmah- I'll pass this up the chain, may help. Did it for someone a few years ago with success. One question though : is the oven cabinet plump on the sides and face? Level? If not plumb, do the sides measure equally.

I don't doubt that it is off square but I can't count the times I've "fixed" cabinets thrown off square with improper installation. (even in top end brands.)

Thanks for the advice, Jakuval. (Correct, traditional overlay in my kitchen.) However, I don't want to start messing with these adjustments and making things worse: when I call the dealer and his installation crew back in, they'll say I messed it up. Yes, 1/16" is indeed noticeable to the eye (so, you can imagine the 3/16"s!). I immediately emailed the owner and itemized all of the drawers that were off. He came the next day, took one look, and said, "Hmmm, I don't see any problems here. What's the problem?" Geez, did you not read my detailed email, or are you trying to be funny? He made me point out all the different areas where the drawers didn't align (whether due to size or installation). His comment: "Seriously?! Your eyes can actually see that?" It has been a very rocky road with our dealer.

ckahmah: Despite our regional manager being called to the house for a meeting, to lend what advice he could give, at the end of the day you'll need to communicate with SP through your dealer. They/SP don't like to get between a dealer and the customer, as your/customer's business relationship is directly with the dealer. We actually did have huge issues with our appliance cabinet. Turns out either the KD mis-measured the space or she didn't review the oven specs carefully enough. KD told me the 'universal' cabinet shown in her catalog wasn't specific enough. After we rejected their/dealer's proposed remedy (their guy would basically take a saw to the entire cabinet, hack it apart, and rebuild it in our space), we said no go: we didn't pay for a hacked up cabinet to be installed. I realized this was the right call after I double, triple and quadruple checked the specs: the cabinet ordered wasn't even the right width. A new one was re-ordered to spec, on their dime.
