Theres really not any room for furniture. Unless you did a really narrow console on the half-wall side. Or just some large vases or crocks for design. A nice runner would do and some large art work on that wall would take you eye away from the switches and alarm box. I think a shelf would stick out too much on the side. I also think you could do for a much larger dramatic light fixture. The door is beautiful so you have that going on for you.

This would be something to consider, of course since it's your main entry I'm only suggesting to do the inlay but it would add the space you need to put something pretty like the shelf mentioned above. As far as the alarm panel and outlet, those are easily moved or recessed with the inlay and you could find some easy DIY videos on hgtv.com to show you how.

Instead of adding a shelf I would add a wider cap on your half wall to display some scuptural piece and highlight it with a overhead light. Add a grouping of pictures or a large size art work on the right wall and highlight it with a overhead light as well. Add an area rug with horizontal stripes to give a different dimension to the long narrow space.

I would install a narrow console along the half wall with some lamps and decorative accessories. Or you could add a wall mount mail collector

I have the same foyer. We purchased the house a year ago and the previous owner has a small floating shelf with a large iron mirror over it. We removed the floating shelf as there wasn't enough room but I had the exact same mirror as the previous owner. I removed the shelf put up a chair rail painted underneath the chair rail a different color and painted the pony wall the same color as underneath the chair rail it looks great and the door is no longer hitting the shelf

That's is too funny! We do have the same entry way. You don't happen to live in Florida? Thanks for the suggestions. I do like the idea of adding a larger cap to the pony wall too.
