should I paint these nightstands

I bought a couple nightstands off Craigslist for my guest bedroom. I will be removing the existing stands on each side of the bed. Do you think I should paint the nightstands a lighter color?

No. A lighter color might look better in that room but those night stands are way too nice to be painted.

How do the nightstands look against that dark wall? I might paint the wall a lighter color before I would paint the nightstands.

I would like some contraast on that wall -- a picture or pictures, an upholstered headboard or a different color paint, but I agree on not painting the nightstands.

What kind of quality are they?

According to the seller they are about 5 years old. No brandname, but they are in good shape, a few dings and scratches but nothing that would bother me to leave. I won't be getting a headboard. I do have a pair of pictures I thought I would hang. They are pretty large. I also plan to get a matching pair of lamps, not sure what yet, but I could focus on something with white shades.

I'd paint the wall first - even if you just painted lighter panels on each side of the bed, floor to ceiling. Would brighten the room and still leave the accent color and show off the night stands.

No. Your room is really pretty and I think the dark tables will look fine against your dark wall, and esp nice with the horse(s).

If they were mine, I would probably paint. Can't say for sure without seeing more detail and knowing what they're made of but my gut tells me they are made in China and nothing special. Whether they should be painted for YOUR room is another matter.

Thank you. Just love that color, and your nightstand and picture look great against it.

Lovely just the way they are -- don't paint them.

I'm glad you didn't paint them. They really do look wonderful with the wall color and art. Any chance you could do a wall mount lamp? The table and art just look so great, I wouldn't want to fill any of that space with a lamp. Maybe something brass or like this to go with the frame and table hardware?

They look just as great as I thought they would. If you want to lighten the look, add light color with the lamps and bed headboard. Gold, cream, glass, all would look good in there. Love your changes so far, the darker brown wood goes much better in the room than the previous nightstands. That gold, black, chocolate brown, cream burgundy color palette is really nice!

Thanks Oly that is a unique lamp, and I like the style.

I agree with others that a upholstered headboard would look good, but I will probably be moving in a couple years, and just don't want to accumulate more big furniture to move.

I guess I would not have to get lamps. I was thinking if I did get one, if it was about 24" high it would just cover the mat/border on the art, kind of like this

If I don't add lamps, should the art be a bit lower? I didn't hang the other picture until I decide on the positioning.

You can pick up headboards for a song if you have a nice used furniture store around you. We got a cannonball head and foot board for 75 bucks! Pass them on when you leave!
