We are building a house with an open floorplan kitchen/living. The kitchen has a large island where we will place stools. Also in the kitchen is a small dining space. It includes boxed windows in the corner. Unfortunately, though, the space is poorly designed in my opinion. It's a small space anyway, designed for a small table. But the door to the backyard open inwards to the space, effectively limiting what you can put there. As it stands, I don't even think a table/chairs of any size would allow the door to open completely without hitting it. This is clear when visiting their model home of the same house.

I absolutely want a table there bc we have other uses for the "formal" dining space (we are only a family of three who doesn't entertain much, but obviously need more than just counter dining. We may someday be able to get someone in to reverse the door swing (to swing that's the living room), but that would be way down the road.

Honestly, I would love an L-shaped built in banquette. Perhaps with a door stop on the base to prevent the door from hitting it. But I suspect there is no way to do this, with enough seating length without it looking disproportionate to the windows. I've thought about just bench seating along the wall perpendicular to the door wall, using a narrow, rectangular table. But again, I don't know how this would look with the corner window box.

I've included photos of measurements, as well as pictures from the model home and similar homes under construction. Our house will be different only such that we will have time floors, and we will not have the oven cabinet at the end (just a continuation of the older/lower cabinets). Our cabinets will be white shaker, with white subway tile backslash and "Carrara" quartz counters.
