Spring is starting to show in my garden!

Stuff is starting to green up and buds are swelling. Spring will be here sooner than we think.

Loquat fruit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! every year this tree blooms and makes fruit and every year they fall off without getting ripe. I keep thinking that as the tree ages it might finally be able to support the fruit full term. Fingers crossed this is the year!

Pawpaw flower buds. All of my trees are loaded. Some sort of creature likes to nibble the tips off the flower buds so I may have to wrap cloth around some of the stems to keep that from happening. It might be squirrels in which case the dogs have finally figured out that chasing them is part of their job so it may not be a problem this spring.

Cornelian Cherry - Cornus mas in full bloom, which is normal for them. They bloom early and long and cold weather doesn't seem to bother them. I just wish the fruit had more flavor.

Kiwi buds are swelling. Leaves will pop out first and then the flowers, from the same node on the branch.

My Pomegranate in the garage started to leaf out. I have few fig, pomegranate and jujubes plants in garage. Is it good time to move them outside?

No. I would wait until the night time lows are in the high 40's or low 50's - like late April or early May. You could move them out on warm days and back inside at night but that can be a hassle for months and months. If you could open the garage door during the sunny days that would help them adjust to life outdoors.

Have you done your dormant pruning yet?

Most of it. I still have figs to cut back. I never do a hard prune, partly because I'm lazy and partly because I never know which branch is gonna catch a disease (blight, rust, take your pick, they're all here). Also, with things like plums and apricots I like to have as many flowers as possible to keep the bees happy. After the bloom is over I will trim back more of the branches.

My Plants are still in hibernation!! Very much like me!!! The only sign of spring is a the red fox sighting!! Sigh!!
