I noticed you like the contemporary look. I would go with a floating vanity that still offers some storage. Depending on the budget - you could replace that fiberglass tub unit with a standard tub and a great tile surround - run the tile surround up to the ceiling area. If you aren't too attached to the tub, I think this layout is perfect for replacing the tub with a large shower that has a clear glass entry. It will make the space feel much larger.
