I remember reading an interesting article about self clean cycles in ovens. Basically put, every time you run a self clean cycle in your oven ( applies to all brands), you significantly shorten the lifespan of your oven. The primary reason being that the extreme heat, generated by the cycle and the length of it, is damaging the electronic controls within the oven. Computer parts and electronics do not play nice with cycles of extreme heating. Manufacturers are aware of this and try to insulate, but the ideal would be an oven with no self clean cycle...but if they did that, they would sell no ovens because consumers demand self clean cycles. The bottom line was try if at all possible to avoid using the self clean cycle.
