I agree, just be patient, warmer weather does wonders.

I'm not as optimistic for two reasons. First my native sages are well along on their new growth (Sunset zone 19, LA valleys) and yours shows the same on that one branch. If the other branches were also going to grow I think they would be showing it by now. Second, my experience with native sages is that they don't do well when severely cut back into old growth. Trimming year old or two year old growth is not a problem but cutting back into older gray barked wood doesn't stimulate new growth, it just doesn't respond.

That is definitely not how you prune Cleveland Sage. It might survive from the one shoot that you do have, but I doubt the whole plant will come back. I'd appreciate knowing it's progress as the spring goes on.

Thanks for the replies. I might yank it. I have another sage that is growing fine. The little bit of growth you see has not been progressing much in the last month.

So when you cut back, how much do you cut back?

With this Salvia you let it start greening-up in the spring and then cut it back to just above a new, healthy set of leaves on each stem; there can be more than on set of leaves per stem, just cut back to the first big set.

Yank it. Greggii looks good when regularly chopped, but you have to start early and not let the hardened off branches get too big.
