When you bought them were they outside (exposed to winter)? All three of these are very hardy plants and handle winter weather just fine, unless they spent time in a greenhouse. All three of them like containers, just make sure the containers are as large as possible, filled with soil that drains well (add gravel to it if you have to). They like rich to medium soil but they hate to sit in wet soil for long. They do not need a lot of fertilizer, maybe once a year. Of those three Thyme gives me the most problems. It will grow well for a while and then part of it will die back making the whole clump look sickly. I just buy it again and plant more of it.
