Ceilings are often painted in the same color as the walls for drama. If you are considering it with a merlot color, just be prepared for it. It will create a very warm and rich environment for you. Cozy! Take a look at a few examples:

thanks...that is really helpful...i might just go for it. Looking for cozy. S..oft cream throws and cream wool rug...

when the ceiling and the walls are the same color it makes the room look much more open and larger. No cut off at the top of the walls. Did this in one of my bathrooms. Looked much larger than it was. You can always repaint. :)
