table + lamp height should be approx. equal for both spots. so if you go with mismatched heights on the table, go with mismatched lamps to compensate.

but if the tables are the same, you can go with different but similar height lamps, or vice versa.

Matching end tables is very old school and unimaginative. We have so many more choices now! The easiest way to make different table work is exactly what nnigrt said--keep your heights very similar.
