I do not know if you sew. If yes, you could slipcover your chairs e.g. In orange. It comes cheaper, if you do not need a decorator.

As far as the antique piece is concerned, it would be worth engaging a specialist and having parts of it covered with leaf gold.

Vollezele, Here's a pic from Xmas and last Easter, we used paper plates because only the little kids ate at this table, the adults ate outside. :) I don't like formal at all, we consider ourselves as Country folk with all our animals.

The fruit really shows what kind of color pop you need on the table. I love the color! And without the runner, anything you do will stand out now. I keep thinking some fabric with an orange and white bold (floral) print (and perhaps with a touch of black or dark brown) will be pleasant on the eye, nodding to your table and chair colors. It would be an inexpensive and quick splash of color until you get your new windows and drapes. I would not choose something thick though (a rug might be too plush to be able to set a vase or centerpiece on it). I have seen tables in Belgium and France where these shorter runners are laid across the table the other way, from seat to seat. They can be as wide as place mats, and serve the same purpose. One mat covers places for two people sitting across from each other. Will look for a photo for you.

Oh, fun! I especially like the bright yellow for Easter. It helps to see how you like to use your table. Skip drapes that puddle if you have kids and a dog there! You sound like you prefer practical and lively decor, not too formal. Thanks for the photos of your holiday use.

I found the little iron stands at a small shop in Grapvine Texas...to hold it up....I will keep an eye out online if their is anything that could be used. I filled it with black glass stones and added feathers and some old iron gate keys I found in an antique shop...added candles....battery operated and on a remote....in the fall I add pine cones and at Christmas I add fresh pine branches and glass ornaments ....

Hope this helps. If you have an Asian import store near you , you can usually get them in all different sizes.

Or you can sometimes find an antique one at a flea market or antique store. Some pics I thought you might like.

lynartist those pots were purchased when I was at my old home, if I could I would get rid of them, they were very pricey, I have a warehouse with my other dining room table and furniture from Glabmans and I'm hoping to sell it all. The stands are to Asian looking, I like the Iron stand but I don't feel it's something I need to run out and buy. Love the plant! :) I like the laterns you posted.

I'm for adding something tall on either side of the wall art at the end of the room. Maybe a tall plant on the table and another to the left of the art work.

I briefly read through some of the comments and think the addition of window panels would soften the lines/angles---I believe Lynartist suggested a fabulous window treatment. :))

A rug? I understand your hesitancy and agree with several comments, it is not necessary.

While the wall relief is beautiful, it makes the room appear very narrow and it echoes the pattern of the light fixture so neither one stands out. I think it might look perfect on the wall below the ledge.

Since the lack of color is your dilemma, my recommendation would be to add an overscaled painting or wall mural to that far wall. It will serve as a beautiful, colorful backdrop to all your lovely furnishings as well as, "visually" expand the space.

I have been fighting for drapes from the start...lets hope we get everyone on board....Lynartist is finally on board!! :)

I still think some white airy panels on the windows would
look very nice. I think someone said try to stay monochromatic that would be perfect. Candles at diff heights on the mantel and maybe some pretty plates of sorts on the ledge. I really like the piece on the wall but feel it's weighing down the wall a bit. Accessorize and then decide about that piece. But I feel strongly about the hutch. It's just not right for the space. Your getting some great ideas.

I may sound rude but I don't understand how someone who claims to like casual, ended up with a fifteen ft table with formal French chairs. It is such a beautiful room not to use. Beams On the ceiling, Rough linen drapes. Burlap lumbar pillows on all the chairs, maybe even burlap slip overs for just the backs of the chairs. Rustic baskets with potted flowers on the table. Remove the shutters, they close off the light and view and are cold. Dads piece where the bird is , bird in the back corner , rustic, beat up side table where dads piece is, with a lamp and some interesting pieces. It is a huge room that needs to be made welcoming.

Carolyn, who told you this room is not in use? Size of a table doesn't mean it's not casual, the table is used 4 times a week and it's full with one more added high chair. Our home is very comfortable and inviting (just ask our 3 dogs ) if you read the comments including mine you will see only kids sit at the table on holidays, no adults! And if French country is what it looks like then French Country it is.

And it's 13 feet! NOT 15'

I've never looked at shutters to be closed off and cold, I'm sure drapes would be very softening. And Naturally they are closed at night.

I like the room the way it is on your last picture. I have read the all comments and suggestions and find that everyone wants to change your beautiful eclectic and serene room into something more pedestrian. Enjoy what you have

No, I don't think it's too big at all---perhaps a bit too small. The wall relief is 6' x 6' so I was thinking more of a landscape format-like your horses---wider, not square; approximately 9' x 7'

Your picture is beautiful. The colors appear to be perfect. If you want to give it a try and snap or photo or two, I'd like to see what it looks like on that wall. :))

Confused...are you considering horse art of any kind or only real photo horse art....and for where? Above mantle? I would continue to add candles to your mantle and why not consider and old vintage mirror on it....so it can reflect light around the room...how about some cowboy boots on the hearth with some baskets....I think just layering items in the room that reflect your life style is important to bring your personality to the space. I think that is what is missing...

tedbixby we use our table mostly in the evenings, we use it for breakfast on the weekends. We have an amazing view in the mornings

That's a good idea Ted but those windows are quite wide and for the Roman shades to be operational they would be so heavy ! I have seen this done though we're the shades were non operational and a lighter roller shade underneath was used to control light.

Here's a pic from a mag. I saved ( gosh Ted, sometimes we really do think so much alike!) they used silhouette blinds underneath I believe . Yes ,I do think drapes will look nice but not with the scale of these windows. If something like this can be done, great. But this is a custom treatment requiring several different components. It would be quite pricey indeed.

IF you are considering a more colorful piece of art on the large wall, I would like to suggest a wool tapestry. I found one that features a beautiful horse along the water's edge. Tapestry, especially wool, would solve three typical problems in a room like yours without drapes - providing color, a softening texture, and sound absorption. Here is one with orange tones, and the water at the bottom is actually more blue than it appears in the photo. It even has fish (very rare in a tapestry)! This is 5' x 5'.

There is also one that could work on the wall by your door if you would like to soften the area in 29" x 60" (shows only left half of the scene).
